A market evaluation for the BioFuelent process
We hope that you will support this effort by providing input on the biodiesel from animal waste market.
Purpose:
BioFUELent is a project to characterize the 2016 marketplace for biodiesel fuel derived from animal fats, oils, and greases (FOG). Markets
of interest are waste water treatment plants, meat processors, fat renderers, waste grease transporters, and waste disposers. The work is
being done under a grant from the National Science Foundation to Dr. M. Lu, professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of
Cincinnati. The project team includes Art Helmstetter, Business Mentor, Mr. J Zhang a graduate student in professor Lu’s department, and
Mr. N Holliday a PhD candidate in the Materials Science Department.

Producing Biodiesel Fuel From Waste Grease
WWTP Meat Processing Waste Services Biodiesel Producers Renderers
& Food Preparation
Target Markets:
The commercial markets for this process include a number of participants in the food processing And
waste services industries. The primary problem solved is the plugging of pipes at wastewater treatment
plants by waste grease. This trap grease is currently disposed In landfills. The BioFUELent process
extracts the useful oil from the trap grease and is combined with yellow grease and waste cooking oil to
create a high grade feedstock for biodiesel fuel producers.
Solvent Free Process to Convert Waste Cooking Oil To Biodiesel Fuel
Today 4 billion pounds of trap grease and 2.7 billion pounds of used cooking oil are produced each year which can yield
nearly 500 million gallons of biodiesel fuel. This is a significant percentage of the total current biodiesel production of 1,500
million gallons per year. This process converts waste cooking oil and greases into biofuel using 36% less energy and with 54%
lower greenhouse emissions than existing processes used to convert cooking oils and fats to fuel.
