Araling Panlipunan (Makabayan, Social
Studies) is the learning area that lays most
stress on the development of social awareness,
empathy and firm commitment to our
common goal as a nation. It entails the use of
integrated units, which enable the individual
to personally process, assimilate and
systematically practice wide range of values
and life skills including work ethic.
The main Principle in
Teaching Makabayan
is to do Integration.
Integration is characterized by the following:
(Kovalik and Olsen, 1994)
 prefers questioning and problem solving to
direct the process of acquiring knowledge and
skills.
 reflects the interdependent real world
 involves the learner’s body, feelings, senses,
and intuition in learning experience
 bases its practices on the characteristics of the
human learner and on the interdependent
nature of reality.
 provides holistic context for learning
 leads to a greater ability to make a number of
connections and to solve problems
The teaching of Araling
Panlipunan is expected to:
 contribute to the
development of a
wholistically developed
citizen who is aware and
knowledgeable of
and critically analyzes
current social issues and
concerns in the local and
global level.

pagpapanday ng maulad
na kinabukasan para sa
bansa .
Saklaw at daloy ng Kurikulum:
Naipamamalas ang kamalayan bilang batang
Pilipino sa Katangian at abahaging
ginagampanan ng tahanan, paaralan at
pamayanan tungo sa paghubog ng isang
mamamayang mapanagutan, may
pagmamahal sa bansa at pagmamalasakit sa
kapaligiran at kapwa.

Meaningful ,Integrative ,
Value – based, Challenging and
Active
Meaningful:
It is meaningful when students
see the relevance and
connection of their lesson to
their lives because it has real –
world application. It also
becomes meaningful when
students are challenged to use
disciplined inquiry or use high
– order thinking skills to
construct meaning. It is
meaningful when learning is
authentic.
Integrative:
The subject itself is an integration
of several interrelated disciplines –
history, economics, geography,
political science, sociology,
anthropology, archeology and
psychology. It is sensitive to and
integrates multiple intelligences
and learning styles of students. It
integrates cognitive skills required
in other disciplines as it provides
opportunities for students to
conduct inquiry, develop and
display data, synthesize findings,
and make judgments.
Value - based:
A powerful and effective AP
teaching is value driven because its
intended outcomes the
development of the mamayang
mapanagutan, makalikasan,
makabansa at makatao. Students
learn democracy by experiencing
democracy right there in the
classroom. It’s lessons are replete
with value – laden concerns and
issues where students listen to
competing arguments, assess the
merits of competing arguments
and make informed and value-
based decisions.
Active:
It requires students to process and
think about what they are learning.
Active learning is "hands-on-
minds-on-hearts-on". Students
work individually or
collaboratively, using rich and
varied sources, to reach
understandings, make decisions,
discuss issues and solve problems.
Students interact teachers by asking
and answering questions as
teachers explain. Students also
interact with learning materials.
Challenging:
Learning task should neither
be too easy to bore the students
nor too difficult to discourage
them. AP teachers should
know their students more than
anything else and so are in the
best position to determine
when the learning task are
neither too easy nor too
difficult.

1. Natutukoy ang antas ng pamumuhay noong panahon
ng panunungkulan ni Pangulong Ferdinand E. Marcos.
2. Nasusuri ang dahilan at epekto ng Batas Militar sa
mamamayang Pilipino.
3. Naiisa-isa ang mga sanhi at bunga ng Martial Law.

Ang dalawang layuning po ay:
1. Upang mailigtas ang republika
2. Upang bumuo ng Bagong Lipunan
Sa aking sariling pananaw, may mga naidulot
naman itong kabutihan. Ngunit habang tumatagal
ay pasama ng pasama ang antas ng pamumuhay
dahil naging laganap ang kahirapan, krimen,
kagutuman at marami pang iba.
Ipapahayag ang opinyon ng bawat isa sa pangkat.
Mayroon po akong sariling paraang kung paano
ko ito pinapahalagahan. Para sa akin, ang
paggunita sa kamatayan ni Ninoy, ay isa sa mga
ito, ang kadakilaan niya sa pagtutol sa diktadurya
ang pinakadakila. Kulang ang mga papuri at
parangal, kailangang isa puso ang diwa ng
kanyang kamatayan.

  • 2. Araling Panlipunan (Makabayan, Social Studies) is the learning area that lays most stress on the development of social awareness, empathy and firm commitment to our common goal as a nation. It entails the use of integrated units, which enable the individual to personally process, assimilate and systematically practice wide range of values and life skills including work ethic.
  • 3. The main Principle in Teaching Makabayan is to do Integration.
  • 4. Integration is characterized by the following: (Kovalik and Olsen, 1994)  prefers questioning and problem solving to direct the process of acquiring knowledge and skills.  reflects the interdependent real world  involves the learner’s body, feelings, senses, and intuition in learning experience  bases its practices on the characteristics of the human learner and on the interdependent nature of reality.  provides holistic context for learning  leads to a greater ability to make a number of connections and to solve problems
  • 5. The teaching of Araling Panlipunan is expected to:  contribute to the development of a wholistically developed citizen who is aware and knowledgeable of and critically analyzes current social issues and concerns in the local and global level.
  • 6. K-3 4-6 7-10  Naipamamalas ang panimulang pag-unawa at pagpapahalaga sa sarili , pamilya , paaralan , at komunidad , at sa mga batayang konsepto ng pagpapatuloy at pagbabago , distansya at direksyon gamit ang mga kasanayan tungo sa malalim na pag – unawa tungkol sa sarili at kapaligirang pisikal at sosyo – kultural , bilang kasapi sa komunidad at nang mas malawak na lipunan .  Naipamamalas ang mga kakayahan bilang batang produktibo , mapanagutan at makabansang mamamayang Pilipino gamit ang kasanayan sa pagsasaliksik , pagsisiyasat , mapanuring pag – iisip , matalinong pagpapasya , pagkamalikhain , pakikipagkapwa at pag – unawa sa mga batayng konsepto ng heograpiya , kasaysayan , ekonomiya , pamamahala , sibika at kultura tungo sa pagpapanday ng maunlad na kinabukasan para sa bansa .  Naipamamalas ang mga kakayahan bilang kabataang mamamayang Pilipino na mapanuri , mapagnilay , malikhain , may matalinong pagpapasya at aktibong pakikilahok , makakalikasan , makatao at makabansa , na may pandaigdig na pananaw gamit ang mga kasanayan sa pagsisiyasat , pagsusuri ng datos at iba’t ibang sangunian , pagsasaliksik , kasaysayan , ekonomiya , politika at kultura tungo sa pagpapanday ng maulad na kinabukasan para sa bansa .
  • 7. Saklaw at daloy ng Kurikulum: Naipamamalas ang kamalayan bilang batang Pilipino sa Katangian at abahaging ginagampanan ng tahanan, paaralan at pamayanan tungo sa paghubog ng isang mamamayang mapanagutan, may pagmamahal sa bansa at pagmamalasakit sa kapaligiran at kapwa.
  • 8. GUIDING PRINCIPLES: Effective teaching of Araling Panlipunan is characterized as Meaningful ,Integrative , Value – based, Challenging and Active
  • 9. Meaningful: It is meaningful when students see the relevance and connection of their lesson to their lives because it has real – world application. It also becomes meaningful when students are challenged to use disciplined inquiry or use high – order thinking skills to construct meaning. It is meaningful when learning is authentic.
  • 10. Integrative: The subject itself is an integration of several interrelated disciplines – history, economics, geography, political science, sociology, anthropology, archeology and psychology. It is sensitive to and integrates multiple intelligences and learning styles of students. It integrates cognitive skills required in other disciplines as it provides opportunities for students to conduct inquiry, develop and display data, synthesize findings, and make judgments.
  • 11. Value - based: A powerful and effective AP teaching is value driven because its intended outcomes the development of the mamayang mapanagutan, makalikasan, makabansa at makatao. Students learn democracy by experiencing democracy right there in the classroom. It’s lessons are replete with value – laden concerns and issues where students listen to competing arguments, assess the merits of competing arguments and make informed and value- based decisions.
  • 12. Active: It requires students to process and think about what they are learning. Active learning is "hands-on- minds-on-hearts-on". Students work individually or collaboratively, using rich and varied sources, to reach understandings, make decisions, discuss issues and solve problems. Students interact teachers by asking and answering questions as teachers explain. Students also interact with learning materials.
  • 13. Challenging: Learning task should neither be too easy to bore the students nor too difficult to discourage them. AP teachers should know their students more than anything else and so are in the best position to determine when the learning task are neither too easy nor too difficult.
