10. Enemies or Terrorism Occurrences
Within the Last 10 Years
! There are no attacks recorded recently of from other countries. A lot of the
documented terrorist occurrences that happened within Greece were Greek people.
! On December 27, 2018, an explosion occurred in the Kolonaki area of Athens. An
employee of a church located the explosive device in a metal box outside the
church of Agios Dionysios, near the U.S. Embassy. There was no warning phone call
before the explosion. Fortunately, there were no major casualties; one police officer
and one civilian sustained minor injuries.
! On November 1, 2019, ten perpetrators broke into the offices of far-right political party
“Golden Dawn” and detonated an IED that caused a fire and damages. No
organization has come forward and taken responsibility for this attack.

! On July 16, 2014, a known and “most
wanted” Greek terrorist, Nikos Maziotis,
leader of the group called
Revolutionary Struggle, was caught
and arrested after a police shootout in
the middle of a popular tourist spot
and shopping district. He was sent to
maximum security prison in Athens.
! There were very little casualties,
fortunately. One officer was wounded,
and two tourists had very minor injuries.

Regulations
and Laws
! In order to film/photograph in restricted areas such as places of
religious worship like churches and monasteries, border areas,
aerial and underwater filming, airports and military/harbor areas,
they require one to obtain a special permit to do so. In open-air
spaces, it is not required.
! Fees also can be required in order to film for certain locations.
! To obtain the permit, the Press & Communications Office must
be contacted. This can be done by email or contacting them at
their Washington D.C. or New York locations. Their email is
public.relations@minpress.gr.
! When contacting them, it must be done at least two weeks
before the time of the shooting.
! The following must be given: The concept of the project, the
names of the media involved (TV network, production company,
newspaper etc.), function and passport details (name, surname,
father’s name, date of birth, passport number and passport
expiration date) for every member of the crew, dates of arrival
and departure, and dates and locations of shooting in Greece.
