2. Lesson 11, Where are you going?
• “Everyone must die once, and after that be judged by
God”
Hebrews 9:27
• “Listen! This is the hour to receive God’s favor; today is
the day to be saved!”
2 Corinthians 6:2
3. The Rich Man and Lazarus’ Life on
Earth
• Once there lived two men whose lifestyles were in contrast to each other.
• The rich man wore expensive clothes, lived in a mansion and had many
food to eat.
• He was always aware that Lazarus, the beggar, was lying at his door, yet
he never cared for him.
4. The Rich Man and Lazarus’ Life on
Earth
• On the other hand, Lazarus was very poor. He had sores and no food to
eat. He was even willing to eat the bits of food that fell from the rich man’s
table.
• His name, Lazarus, means “God, the helper.”
• Since he was helpless, he depended on God’s help.
5. The Rich Man and Lazarus’ Life after
Death
• One day Lazarus died.
• The angels carried him to heaven.
• This shows that Lazarus was a righteous man.
• He really trusted in God.
6. Conditions in heaven
1. Angels carry those who love God to heaven.
2. It is a place for those who put their trust in God. An example is Abraham
who was there.
3. There is feasting in heaven. Lazarus had all the good things he needed.
4. There is joy. Lazarus was enjoying himself. There is no pain; his sores
were gone.
5. Those who go to heaven cannot cross over to hell.
7. The Rich Man and Lazarus’ Life after
Death
• The rich man also died
• He went to Hades
• Hades is another name for hell.
8. Conditions in hell
1. There is great pain in hell.
2. Fire continually burns there, punishing the wicked.
3. No one can cross over to heaven from hell.
9. Why is it impossible for someone in hell to
transfer to heaven?
• There is a deep pit between hell and heaven.
• Once a person is in hell or in heaven, they stay there
forever.
10. ”Middle place”
• Some people believe that there is a middle place between heaven
and hell where sinners can go when they die.
• They believe that if families and friends of the dead pray for them,
God will take them to heaven after a time of suffering.
• The Bible DOES NOT say there is a middle place.
11. CONCLUSION
• The rich man himself had not listened to God’s Word and obeyed it while he was on earth.
• He continued to spend most of his money on himself while the poor people around him
suffered.
• He insisted on being selfish and would not turn from his sins.
• That is why he was in hell.
• Accept = Good work + Salvation = Heaven
