❖ In June 2019, Aguascalientes will hold state elections for the following positions; Municipal Councils
(City Councils).
❖ Aldo Sanchez has not held any publicly elected position. In 2016, he was sanctioned by the State
Electoral Tribunal for withholding Party (MORENA) financial records and removed from his position as
President of MORENA in Aguascalientes.iii
❖ Orozco previously served as PAN federal senator and Aguascalientes city mayor (2005-07).
❖ He faced criminal prosecution in 2010 for improper exercise of public service and influence peddling
largely originating from allegations related to an illegal land swap deal. He received immunity in 2012
when he took office as senator.
❖ The state has been among the safest in Mexico since violence declined in 2012.
❖ For a safe state, crime levels are high. ENVIPE 2016 reported the state had the 8th highest incidence
and 6th highest prevalence of crime in Mexico.
❖ The capital city has nearly 75 percent of the state’s population.
❖ Known for its hot springs; the state’s annual Feria Nacional de San Marcos is a month-long celebration
surrounding April 25, Feast Day of San Marcos.
❖ In 2016, Aguascalientes received 447.1 million USD in FDI.iv
❖ The state hosts Nissan and Toyota plants, and a Daimler and Renault-Nissan project broke ground in
2016. American firms like Donaldson, Dynagear, Eaton, Flex (formerly Flextronics), Sensata, Texas
Instruments, and TRW also have operations there.
❖ Important industrial base, producer also of corn, guava, alfalfa, and lettuce.
