Employees Hold the Key to Success
Most experienced business owners and managers know full well that a company's success depends,
for the most part, on the employees who work there. If you are fortunate enough to have a staff of
loyal, dedicated, hard-working employees, you're well on your way to building a thriving business.
Unfortunately, that's not quite as easy as it once was. Today, in an age when all companies depend on
the Internet for everything from marketing and advertising to the most mundane daily business tasks,
employees are constantly tempted to use their online access for personal reasons during the workday.
In fact, this has become such a widespread problem that a new term has been coined to describe it:
cyberloafing.
Since all company owners and managers want to be successful, and most understand that employees
hold the key to that success, it's not surprising that many have resorted to using PC monitoring
software in an effort to combat the problem. Sometimes referred to as "spyware," Internet tracking
software is often considered to be a blatant invasion of privacy. Once workers discover that their
manager is "spying" on them, it erodes their trust in the employer. That, in turn, can lead to an even
greater lack of productivity.
There's another reason that PC monitoring software can't completely resolve the issue. While there's
no doubt that it will help you to determine which sites your workers are visiting, it will only function on
the computers your employees are using at the office. Since the vast majority of modern-day workers
now carry smart phones or tablet computers with them each and every day, they will still be able to
access the Internet through their own personal devices anytime they wish to do so.
Rather than resorting to Internet tracking software, why not approach the situation from a positive
point of view? When you stop to think about it, the Internet isn't actually the issue. The real problem is
a lack of motivation on the part of your employees. So the answer lies in finding effective ways to
motivate your workers. The first step is measuring the amount of time each individual spends in
productive work during the course of a workday, then challenging that person to do better and finally
rewarding him or her for a job well done.
By approaching the problem from a positive standpoint, you'll be not only helping your company, but
helping your employees as well. Your workers will appreciate your support of them. That appreciation,
in turn, will increase their dedication and loyalty to you and the company, and that will motivate them to
work harder. And the harder your employees work for you, the more successful your business will
become!
