Data Centre Space
Many commercial data centre facilities specify a standard environment which customers
are expected to fit in with. But Vtesse’s customers’ needs vary, depending on their business
requirement - even when using a commercial data centre they still want to define many of
the features of their data centre space.
That’s why we’ve developed a way of building out customer space at our Hoddesdon data centre from scratch to your exacting
specification extremely rapidly – typically in less than 12 weeks and flexibly. And because it’s tailored to your specification, you
only pay for the specification you want, not what the data centre operator thought you needed. So if you require the power
redundancy of a Tier IV facility, then you can have it but if you don’t need it, you don’t have to pay for it. It’s Vtesse’s way of
delivering the best of both worlds, the customisation you get when you build your own private facility but the benefits of sharing
some of the set up costs with other customers in our facility.
The flexibility we can offer includes multiple power and cooling resiliency options from N+1 to 2N; scalable power density, bespoke
security features and a range of accommodation options from individual co-location racks to private customer suites starting at just
250 sq. ft.

A Proven Site
Vtesse Cirrus’ Hoddesdon facility has been a data centre for over 20 years and in that time it has never suffered a major incident.
When we checked the service log of the original Hoddesdon standby generator (since superseded) it had only 200 hours of
usage in 20 years of service, and those were from testing – a testament to the reliability and performance of the local power
infrastructure.
In 2010/11 Vtesse completely refurbished the Hoddesdon facility with new power and cooling infrastructure, including free air
cooling and a 2N power infrastructure upgrade that means the site benefits from the latest innovations in power efficiency and
environmental protection not found in older facilities. The result: industry leading PUE of 1.4 that means we can pass on lower
electricity bills to you.
By locating your IT infrastructure at Hoddesdon, you’ll benefit from substantially lower real estate costs than found in Central
London combined with high power density that supports IT cost reduction programmes such as server consolidation, blade server
deployment or decreasing your data centre footprint.

6. High Density Options
Customers are increasingly looking to deploy high density IT equipment such as blade servers, drawing power up to 30kW per
rack. Deploying high density equipment also offers customers the prospect of managing or reducing their data centre footprint
and with it associated space and power costs. But power availability is becoming a problem in the UK with some facilities suffering
from “more space than power”: customers are forced to rent additional space just to get the power they need.
Our Hoddesdon facility has ample power available and can support high density hosting of up to 30kW per rack. Cooling is crucial
to deploying high density solutions and our experts can design, build and manage the right cooling solution for you using the
latest free air cooling that offers up to a 70% energy saving against conventional mechanical cooling. If required, we can also build
in the latest hot aisle containment technology to maintain operating temperatures.
