Magazine Pitch and Proposal Overview
Proposed Genre of Magazine:Pop.
Proposed Name:Pop Nation
Alternative/Back Up Name: Teen World
Ideas for Front Cover:My idea for the front cover is to have one big dominant image of a girl in
colours matching my colour scheme which was chosen by my audience and is baby pink, hot pink and
light blue. I also want to use lots of anchorage to make my front cover look really busy and exciting to
appeal to my audience. I will use a font that won’t look boring like Times New Roman or Arial
would. I will find my font from internet sites such as urban fonts rather than using normal computer
fonts. I thought that I could include stories about fashion tips, celeb gossip and maybe big pop star
interviews such as one direction.
Target Audience (age range, gender, interests, income etc:My target audience is young girls
8-14 who love boy bands and other big pop stars such as jessie j. Probably interested in girly things
such as fashion and make up (lip gloss and eye shadow as free gifts?). I will set my price low as they
obviously don’t have an income and will maybe buy the magazine using the pocket money they get.
Initial Ideas for Contents Page(s): I want my contents page to also look very busy and i had the
idea to use my front cover on my contents page and use arrows pointing to each story on the front
page and give you a page number. I got this idea from a top of the pops contents page. I think it’s a
better way of showing the contents for young girls who won’t want to read small fonts.
1 or 2 pages?1 page
Percentage Split Between Images and Text: 70/30 split in favour of images.
Section Headers for Contents List:
I will order my contents list into categories such as: interviews, quizzes, fashion and celeb gossip. I
would also have a little category showing the pages were the free posters are.
An Overview of Some of the Articles/Features Included on your Contents Page:
My contents page will include articles about pop stars and their lifestyles, such as one directions
lifestyle. I will also use posters within the magazine as a free gift to appeal to the audience making
them want to buy the magazine. Other ideas for features and articles i had were: Quizzes, Latest
gossip, Celebrity relationships.
Will You Include an Editor's Letter?Yes/No
Article Double Page Spread:
What will your Double Page Spread be about:
2. I was thinking of doing a Pop star fact file. For example, a series of quick and simple questions that
I would ask and present in an interesting way across a double page spread so that there is little writing
and more colourful images.
Back Up Idea:
If my first idea doesn’t go to plan I would do a boy band interview. Revealing secrets about them and
using a competition at the bottom of the page for a chance to get to meet them.
Percentage Split between Images and Text:60/40 split in favour of images.
Possible Title or Headline:
‘A look into the life of Lacey!’
What kind of a 'story' are you going to create?
A story about a new upcoming pop star and her new celebrity lifestyle.
Additional Ideas worth mentioning:
I want to get my target audience to make most of my decisions. I think that this is the best way to
create a successful magazine. If the target audience are picking their favourite ideas, it will create a
magazine that will definitely appeal to them.
