Back to the Future
This January, the City of Onkaparinga will
present an exciting range of events to celebrate
2016 BikeExchange Stage 5. It is the perfect
time to break away and stay in the City of
Onkaparinga, to soak up the atmosphere
and explore the region. Our city is a short
40 minute drive from the CBD, making
it both a liveable city and an accessible
tourism destination. The area is rich in
natural beauty with picturesque scenery of
hills, vineyards and coastline, enhanced
by unique visitor experiences. Our pristine
coastline extends over 31 kilometres from
O’Sullivan Beach to Sellicks Beach. The
clear gulf waters attract beach goers for
many different activities including swimming,
surfing, sailing, walking, snorkelling and
beachcombing. Explore our beautiful scenery
using the many tracks, trails and dedicated
bike paths.
OUR LOVE OF CYCLING
The City of Onkaparinga has been involved with the Santos Tour Down Under since 1999,
traditionally hosting Stage 5 of the race. We have earned the reputation of the Queen Stage
with record attendances for not only our stage, but the entire event.
This year, we have even more cycling action across our city with Thomas Food Stage 3 going
through many of our townships, including Clarendon, Kangarilla, McLaren Flat and Old Noarlunga,
followed by BikeExchange Stage 5, the penultimate finish to the 2016 Santos Tour Down Under.

Pristine beaches, rural charm and
intrinsic beauty, the seaside area of Aldinga
has long been a favourite holiday escape.
Encounter Marine Park – Aldinga Reef
One of the most visited reefs in South Australia, divers and
snorkellers experience rare gorgonian corals, sponges and
reef fish. Established in 1971, explore on foot or underwater
the 505 hectares of the protected marine environment.
Aldinga Beach
Wild cliff scenery and a long, pristine stretch of sand are the
hallmarks of Aldinga Beach. This fabulous expanse of coast
boasts cafes, restaurants and a cycling and walking trail
stretching from Sellicks Beach to Maslin Beach.
PORT WILLUNGA
Home to a famous shipwreck, popular seaside restaurants
and a sparkling strip of beach. A hidden gem.
Star of Greece Café
Popular with locals and celebrities, the Star of Greece Café
offers exquisite meals and a commanding view over the bay.
Port Willunga Jetty remains
A collection of weather-beaten pylons that stand as a reminder
to the town’s past as a grain port, set against a magnificent cliff
backdrop it makes for a great sunset photograph. The jetty was
partially destroyed in a storm in 1915.
Star of Greece
Caught in a fierce storm on 13 July 1883, the ship ran aground
and broke up. It became one of South Australia’s worst marine
disasters. Today, it is a popular spot with snorkellers and divers,
but you don’t have to get wet to see the wreck. At low tide it
can often be seen jutting out of the water, just north of the jetty.
