2. Brief introduction
The MP Romanian Node was created in 2011. The Chair of the Node is Adrian
Pop, Professor at the National University of Political Studies and Public
Administration in Bucharest, Romania
Throughout 2011-2017 the Node was accommodated by the Centre
for Regional and Global Studies at the Romanian Scientific Society
for Interdisciplinary Research
The Node is part of the Foresight Europe Network (FEN) -
www.feneu.org.
3. What did we do in the past
• We were involved in studies and surveys with prospective dimensions in
various areas, but especially in the fields of international relations, geopolitics,
geo-strategy, geo-economics, security and defense.
• We translated the 2010 State of Future (SOF) report and the executive
summaries of the following editions of SOF.
• In January 2012 we conducted a survey regarding the future of the
transatlantic relationship within NATO and on the U.S. ballistic missile system
in Europe.
• In April 2012 we presented the MP to the Romanian public at a C.A.E.S.A.R.
cocktail event.
• The Chair presented the Global Futures Intelligence System (GFIS) at the 21st
World Future Studies Federation (WFSF) World Conference – 26-28 June 2013
• In October 2014 the Center for Regional and Global Studies acted as an official
partner for the third edition of the Security Jam.
5. What did we do in the past
• We completed the Real-Time Delphi surveys for the 3 scenarios of the Future of
Work/Technology 2050 study.
• The Chair contributed a chapter on “The Future of the Global Monetary and Financial
System – Time for a New Bretton Woods?” to Rohit Talwar (Ed.), The Future of Business,
FutureScapes, an imprint of Fast Future Publishing, 2015.
• The Chair participated on 24-27 July 2016 in the MP/NATO workshop on terrorism in
Falls Church, Virginia and contributed a chapter on “Security Challenges on the South-
Eastern Flank of the Euro-Atlantic Border” to Theodore J. Gordon et al. (Eds.),
Identification of Potential Terrorists and Adversary Planning Emerging Technologies and
New Counter-Terror Strategies, Amsterdam-Berlin-Washington, DC: IOS Press, 2016
• Adrian Pop and Răzvan Grigoraș presented a paper at the FTA 2018 Future in the Making
conference – 4-5 June 2018; the paper is considered for publication by the Futures journal
• The Chair contributed a chapter on “Out of the Grey: Romania in NATO” to Arnold
Kammel and Benjamin Ziyla (Eds.), Peacebuilding at Home: NATO and its ‘new’
Member-States after Crimea, Baden—Baden: Nomos, 2018
6. What did we do in 2019-2020
• The Chair contributed a chapter on “Long Cycles and Anticipation“ to Roberto
Poli (Ed.), Handbook of Anticipation: Theoretical and Applied Aspects of the
Use of Future in Decision Making, Cham: Springer, 2019.
• The Chair co-organized a panel on Global Governance Futures at the 3rd
International Conference on Anticipation in Oslo and presented a paper in it –
9-11 October 2019
• Members of the Node contributed to a Delphi survey on four alternative future
scenarios on genetic modifications experiments and a Real-Time Delphi study
on the definitions of terrorism – 2019-2020
