A presentation given after being requested by one of the children at Popcorn House, Langs Cambridge Ontario. Light and Informative. Lots of moving pictures.
4. A Dolphin can jump more
than 20 feet above the water!
That is higher
than the average
sized house!!
8. Like a bat, dolphins use echolocation to
navigate and hunt, bouncing high-pitched
sounds off of objects, and listening for
the echoes.
11. Utilizing their blowholes, air sacks and valves,
dolphins can emit a wide variety of sounds. In
fact, the frequency levels range 10 times beyond
what humans can hear!
This system is called
or “Sonar”, just like what a submarine uses
to navigate while underwater.
19. Dolphins can swim up to a speed of
25 miles per hour. This is 3 times
faster than the fastest humans in the
world.
22. The average dolphin lives for 17
years. However, some of them
living in the wild have about 50
years.
olphins eat 30
pounds of fish
every day.
25. A dolphin needs to get air at different
intervals. Some need air every 20
seconds but others only need it every
30 minutes.
Dolphins breath through a hole in the top
of the dolphin which is called a blowhole.
28. A dolphin that for days has lingered in a shallow
channel in the wetlands may have been bullied and
prevented from leaving by fellow dolphins, according to
one marine rescue specialist.
When rescue crews tried to help the dolphin out of the
nature reserve and into the open ocean, it was
aggressively attacked by a small group of peers and was
forced back into the wetlands.
“He was scared, he was intimidated, he was bullied,"
said the animal rescuer.
30. What are some words to describe how you
feel about the dolphin being bullied by his
fellow dolphin friends?
What would you have said to the dolphins
who were acting like bullies to get them to
stop?
Together, everyone can
What do you think of stop bullying. Never
bullies? let someone be bullied!
