What happens at orientation? How long is orientation? When is orientation (both time of day/week and time of the semester)? Is orientation mandatory? When do students register? What do you do for online and commuter students?
Also talk about satellite campuses with small populations having to wait until the last minute to orient or doing every student one on one
A phased delivery of information based on the idea that students don’t need to know everything before registering * PES: degree reqt’s, academic standards, payment, drop, advising, registration, email * First Advising Session: transfer credit review, program-specific details, outstanding questions * Orientation: Goal - student academic and personal success, Fear-creating dialogue, Need-utilizing resources
Discuss: In class and online formats, session times (10 AM/6PM), sessions scheduled several times per week, rotating days.
Features important to us: ability to show PowerPoint, ability to share web browser, text chat interface, voice interface, other mechanisms for interactivity and participation
WebEx is not the only solution – also Wimba, Live Classroom, etc. We chose WebEx because we felt it had the lowest barrier to student participation: No special software required, supports and integrates regular telephone and does not require participants to have a headset
Need stats on how many students have gone through PES, percent changes in conversion rate, and percent change in REPs based on policies reviewed in PES
