  2. 2. Many people are reluctant to take leadership role - <ul><li>“ you are more capable than us, we are just simple farmer.” or “ go ahead , give us the solutions. It is difficult to think. We are not educated.? </li></ul>Why??
  3. 3. <ul><li>Authoritarian leadership </li></ul><ul><li>Traditional perception of leadership : only those with pleasing personality, intelligence, education, and socio-economic status can become leader </li></ul><ul><li>Low self-esteem. The lack of confidence in their capacity to assume leadership functions </li></ul><ul><li>Feeling of powerlessness . Due to lack of access to resources and control of decision-making, they are resigned to subordinate or follower position </li></ul><ul><li>Overwhelming sense of deference to authority figures and elite groups in the community . This accounts for dominance of traditional leaders in the community </li></ul>
  4. 4. Activity <ul><li>Drop egg exercise </li></ul><ul><li>Divide the class into 4 groups, each group is given an egg, the group must drop the egg from 7 feet high. The group must make sure that the egg must not break </li></ul>Discussion and reflection

Leadership <ul><li>Leading the people: community based leadership – is joint analysis of issues and problems, unified discovery of solutions, collective decision making, and respect for opinion and contributions of each community member. It is also about forming a pool of potential leaders and systematic development of new leadership. Hence, each one in the community has a chance to exercise a leadership role in the decision-making process. </li></ul>

  8. 8. <ul><li>Facilitator </li></ul><ul><li>Provide the community with learning atmosphere </li></ul><ul><li>Provide activities – members to express their creativity </li></ul><ul><li>Provide opportunity – participate in problem-solving process </li></ul><ul><li>Ensure the good communication among and between among community members </li></ul><ul><li>Draw out the participation of each community member in meetings, workshop training activities , etc. </li></ul>
