3. message
from our CEO
Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity in wishing you and
your Company a prosperous 2011. 2010 was an exceptional
year for Dornan Engineering, and I’m delighted to see we have
carried our positive momentum through to this year.
Throughout 2010, we achieved strong results due in large part to
the award of the Electrical/Instrumentation package on Pembroke
Power Station as well as our continued growth in the UK and
Belgium markets.
This is an exciting time for Dornan Engineering and we are looking
forward to new growth opportunities in the months ahead. Thus far
we’ve been extremely pleased with the demand of our services,
securing new projects in the IT and Fit out sectors.
Roadmap for the Future
There’s no dodging the fact, 2011 will be a difficult year for the
construction industry but our awareness of the market place
indicates a better road ahead.
On our part, we intend to continue to differentiate Dornan Engineering
from the Competition by further improving our Customer Service.
During the first quarter of 2011 we intend to hold a number of in-
house seminars focusing on the critical aspects of our business;
“Business Development, Human Resources and Operations” as I
know that it’s important the whole Company stays focused to our
goal of continuously developing effective and innovative policies
that ensure Dornan Engineering continues to expand the key role
we play for existing and new clients around the globe.
I want to ensure all employees are updated and trained on new
and existing procedures & IT tools. I want everyone to be Client
and Project focused; we are a service company and as such we
must ensure our clients receive quality services. Our track record
is proven and continued awareness of new and innovative policies
and procedures will ensure Dornan Engineering’s success into the
future.
Looking Ahead
As we look toward the future, we believe that our strategic
partnerships around the globe, our already strong pipeline of
projects, and the growing demand for our services, will strengthen
our market position. We are dedicated to improving the health,
safety and well-being of our people.
I extend our sincere thanks to our loyal customers, our employees
and partners and I promise to continue keeping you all apprised of
the new and exciting developments at Dornan Engineering.

6. Spotlight on Projects
PEMBROKE
Dornan Engineering commenced work
at the Pembroke Power Station on 7th
June 2010, involving the Electrical &
instrumentation and HVAC packages of
work the largest combined cycle power
plant ever built on a plant in UK.
Our first task was to ensure for the
safeguard of our workforce. As the project
is located 8km outside of Pembroke town,
in a remote area and due to the congested
nature on site with only availability of 20 car
parking spaces, Dornan decided (under the
approval of Alstom) to transport by bus all
employees to and from the site.
We investigated a number of central
locations close to the main road and rail
networks around Pembroke town. Our
estimate is to employ a workforce of around
350 people over the project duration. We
started by developing a detailed Green
Travel Plan for submission for approval
to proceed to Alstom. This has resulted
in renting car park spaces and utilising
between 4 to 5 coaches daily during
peak times, staggered to alleviate road
congestion in the area.
The aim of this Green Travel Plan was to
minimise the impact of car travel on the
environment, by reducing congestion,
enhancing accessibility and improving local
air quality. Dornan Engineering’s Green
Travel Plan is a package of behavioural
and physical initiatives adopted by us, to
both reduce dependency on car travel and
to promote the use of alternative modes of
transport or ways of working that will reduce
car use to and from the Pembroke power
station and the immediate road network
surrounding the projects site location. We
want this travel plan to work and act as our
strategic document to manage the projects
transport demands.
In order to meet our green travel plan
targets, there is a number of actions we
have taken to ensure success. These
can be used to a greater or lesser extent
according to local conditions, and will
be selected to suit the project and local
authority requirements. Dornan consulted

Lift Off
After months of concise planning and preparation,
Dornan’s Legal and General team, led by Project
Manager Paul Morley and Health & Safety Manager
Martin Rooney, executed a successful Helicopter
lifting and final positioning of new Chillers and
Cooling Towers to L4 Roof of the Legal and General
office in Kingswood, Surrey.
Supported on the day by Helirig Ltd and Plant Movements
Ltd, the Helicopter took off from the Legal and General
Sports field, on the East side of the building and took just
75mins to execute 20 lifts.
A total of 4 chillers, 8 compressors, 4 cooling towers and 4
cooling towers fans were lifted into place. The heaviest of
the equipment weighed in at 2.5 tonnes.
A team of 14 men were on hand to ensure the lifting was
executed as planned. All pieces of equipment were marked
out and numbered, corresponding to the placement area
on the roof for the Pilot to navigate the equipment into
place with ease and precision.
All parties involved were pleased with the smooth running
operation of the lift on the day.

11. ‘‘ Following on from the successful relationship built
between Mace and Dornan Engineering Services
on the Newbury Data Centre for Nationwide
Building Society, where Mace achieved the British
Safety Council 5 Star award, the Sword of Honour
and the 5 Star Environmental Award we were
keen to ensure the high standards achieved were
maintained on all of our science and technology
projects.
Health and Safety was therefore a key
consideration when awarding the sub-contract
for the works at Kingswood House, as the project
contains some particular challenges including the
lifting of new plants onto the roof by helicopter.
Dornan have yet again proved to be the right
choice; winning our monthly health and safety
league three months running despite tough
competition from other sub-contractors.
The proactive approach to Health and Safety and
the commitment of a permanent representative in
Martin Rooney for this task have all played a part
in this achievement, as has the active participation
in the safety committee meetings and our BMOS
(Behavioural Management of Safety) scheme
which seeks to modify the actions of those working
on site by getting them to look at what is and is not
safe on site for themselves. The aim is to change
all of our attitudes to safety and create an ongoing
safe culture.
The management and execution of the helicopter
lifting and plant movement activities over the
course of one weekend again had to be well
planned and coordinated in advance between
our two companies to ensure logistics, security
and welfare requirements were all meshed and
could be cohesively presented to the client and
their CDM-C (Construction Design Management
Co-ordinator), responsible for advising the client
on the suitability of our methods from a Health &
Safety point of view.
The works were carried out to plan without a hitch
and 20 lifts were completed in 75 minutes with
loads of up to 2.5 tonnes being moved. We still
have twelve months to run on this project and
plenty more challenges to face but we can look
forward with confidence knowing we have the right
team for the job.
