Background
NETFLIX
BACKGROUND
Netflix was founded in 1997 by Hastings and Randolph as a way to offer
movie rentals over the internet. This eventually led to Netflix.com in
1998, which focused on DVD rentals and sales. The next year the
company added a subscription service, allowing the customer unlimited
DVD rentals at a monthly rate.
In 2018 Netflix won more Emmy awards than HBO. When Netflix started
creating its original content everyone doubted the quality but in 2018 it won
more Emmy awards than HBO. HBO had been winning the most awards at
the annual television awards ceremony for the past 17 years.

PROGRESS
NETFLIX
PROGRESS
The company's been on a tear because it's continuously reinvesting its
growing resources in more and more content, which further fuels the
subscriber flywheel. Predicting the future is hard, but Netflix's future as
the streaming video on-demand ("SVOD") king is virtually assured
