Alphabet Soup – that’s what is out there right now, making it difficult to distinguish one from another and a certificate from a certification (yes – there is a difference).CRM – Certified Records Manager - we all know that one – it has been around for a long time –but do you know if it is a certificate or a certification? And then there’s CA, CDIA+ and PMP – we’ve also seen those for a while – and now there are some new ones – CIP, CIPP, IGP, …and others – some are certificates and others are certifications. Before we talk about some of these acronyms, let’s focus on certificate and certification – they are different.
Content Management – Improve customer and staff engagement, ensure compliance, and automate business processes.Process Improvement – Standardize, automate, and mobilize information-intensive processes.Managing Records & eDiscovery with SharePoint 2013 – Manage records, ensure compliance, and prepare for civil litigation requests.Managing Content in the Cloud – Maximize the benefits and eliminate the risk of using information assets in a cloud-based collaborative environment.Information Governance – Create an information accountability framework that reduces costs, manages risk, and optimizes value. Taxonomy & Metadata – Optimize navigation, findability, and information discovery through content classification
Electronic Records Management – Know what to keep and what to discard as the volume, variety, and velocity of digital information intensifies. Capture and Imaging – Digital imaging at the point of content/document creation is your first step in the automation process. SharePoint 2010 for Content Management – Learn how to plan content types, classification, and search to realize the promise of SharePoint 2010. SharePoint 2010 for Collaboration – Optimize SharePoint for effective knowledge sharing and team work. Selling Content Management – Exclusively for document management solution sales professionals and channel partners.
Certifications, on the other hand, are much more involved. Most require a pre-approval process. That is, there are minimum requirements that must be met in order to be approved to sit for the certification examination. You complete an application, provide the required documentation and pay a fee. Your submission then gets reviewed by a “standards” committee, who then informs you if you are eligible or not for sitting for the certification examination. They are more difficult to achieve than a certificate. They usually require additional financial investments and substantial preparation time. In addition, they usually require continuing education credits in order to maintain the certification. This ensures the certified individual remains current in their knowledge and skill set.
Access/Use – Enterprise Search, Business Intelligence, Master Data Management, Text AnalyticsCapture/Manage – Information Capture, Business Process Management, Knowledge Management, Email Management, Content ManagementCollaborate/Deliver – Collaboration, Social Media, Information Workplace, Instant Messaging, Telecommuting Support, Web ConferencingSecure/Preserve – Security, Records Management, Data Privacy, Digital Rights Management, Archiving, E-DiscoveryArchitecture/Systems – Information Architecture, Technical Architecture, Cloud Computing, Mobile Applications, Websites and PortalsPlan/Implement – Strategic Planning, Building the Business Case Solution Design, Implementation Planning, Requirements Definition, Solution Design, Change Management
The structure for the CEUs is administered by the AIIM Education Advisory Groups. One contact hour of relevant education counts as 1 CEU. CIPs will also be required to submit a fee of $25 per year for AIIM Professional members and $50 for non-members. ($75 for the 3-year period for AIIM Professional members and $150 for non-members).
The U.S. legal system: definitions, sources of law and sectoral model for privacy enforcementU.S. federal laws for protection of personal data: FCRA and FACTA, HIPAA, GLBA, COPPA and DPPAU.S. federal regulation of marketing practices: TSR, DNC, CAN-SPAM, TCPA and JFPAU.S. state data breach notification and select state lawsRegulation of privacy in the U.S. workplace: FCRA, EPP, ADA and ECPA plus best practices for privacy and background screening, employee testing, workplace monitoring, employee investigation and termination of employment
PMP - PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP)® credential is the most important industry-recognized certification for project managers. Globally recognized and demanded, the PMP® demonstrates that you have the experience, education and competency to lead and direct projects. To be eligible for the PMP credential, you must meet certain educational and professional experience requirements. All project management experience must have been accrued within the last eight consecutive years prior to your application submission.
Parts 1 – 5 demonstrate your strong foundation.Part 6 demonstrates your ability to communicate your ability to apply and convey your knowledge to upper management, clients and other constituents.
The five-year certification maintenance cycle for each CRM begins on January 1 or July 1, which ever immediately follows the examination date on which the CRM successfully passed Part VI. However, credit towards Certification Maintenance may be earned from the date of Certification.
