Colleague quoted to me the other day “Real DBA’s/Techies don’t need EM, we use real collection scripts and produce our own reports”. Response: 100% agree, but why not use EM to collect data from your “Mickey Mouse” scripts? Does management understand what you are trying to tell them when you send them SQL output to show blocking and waiting sessions? If you send them a nice graph that shows the blocking and waiting session counts over a period (day/week), they tend to read the reports and understand if there is or isn’t an issue. General acceptance levels for EM reporting: Manually run Custom Reports -> Select input System/Group (Most Operations Staff and DBA’s) Dashboards and drill down reports (All Operations Staff and some Managers) Email reports (Managers) Set UDM’s and EM reports up generically and use them across multiple Servers/Groups. No need for rewrites or manual intervention.

Oracle Corporation have many internal systems and environments to monitor. Focus was dedicated to Fusion System Test and Demo environments. Overall technical architecture internally is changing rapidly, is extremely dynamic and sparse. Indentified requirements internally for additional metric collections, lower level focus and drill downs relating to CPU/Memory, Connections and Session events.
