Fair Oaks Women’s Health in Pasadena, California,
offers comprehensive women’s healthcare, from
routine and high-risk pregnancy care, to complete
gynecological services. Since 2010, the practice has
grown to five physicians, a nurse practitioner, and
30 employees.
Challenge
When Fair Oaks Women’s Health founder Dr. Bryan
Jick was growing his single-practitioner OB/GYN
office to accommodate more physicians in 2007,
he knew he’d need to adopt an electronic health
record (EHR) system. A computer hobbyist for
many years, Dr. Jick read articles, spoke to sales
representatives, and traveled to industry meetings
to soak up all the information he needed to choose
the right EHR for his growing practice.
At the time, Dr. Jick had one person handling all his
billing. “Billing shut down whenever that person
was sick or on vacation,” he said. “It was hard to tell
when to scale from one biller to two. And if a biller
fails to respond to denials or to file claims, you’re

you’re only looking at what comes in.”
As the practice grew in terms of physicians and
space, so did its overhead and payroll. This made

Solution
Prior to choosing a vendor, Dr. Jick had the

Results
Greenway analyzed billing denials and other claim
issues, and within a few months, cash flow shot
up. Proper billing resulted in an approximately 25
percent increase in reimbursement. “They have a
team of people, so they can ramp up,” Dr. Jick said.
“You don’t have to worry about people going on
vacation or getting sick.”
Dr. Jick also purchased Prime Suite, a fully
integrated Practice Management/EHR solution.

practice has improved its response time to patient
