The newsletter provides an overview of upcoming events and activities for ICF Colorado in December 2013 and 2014. It begins with the president's message thanking the past president for his leadership and contributions in 2013. It then previews several upcoming events in December including the holiday party and special interest group meetings. The newsletter concludes by introducing the 2014 board of directors and highlighting some of the planned programs and activities for the upcoming year including a certification class, panel discussion, conference, and involvement in International Coaching Week.

December 2013
IN THIS ISSUE:
Message from Stephanie Wachman
President, ICF Colorado
As I write my first contribution as President of
ICF Colorado, it is a balmy 8F and snowing.
This freezing cold Colorado weather is certainly
not a metaphor for what’s heating up in 2014.
But before I get into what is planned in the
coming year, I wish to extend a BIG Thank You
to our past president Reuel Hunt for all the
work he did last year in building this amazing
board and his contribution to ICF as a whole.
Unfortunately Reuel suffered a mild stroke last
week and has asked me to extend his
appreciation to everyone who contributed to making last year such a
success. Reuel is doing much better, and we wish him a speedy
recovery. I’ve gotten to know Reuel quite well over the past year,
and he is one tough cookie!!
Excited!! That’s the best word to explain what we are working on in
2014. We have scheduled our board retreat for December, and we
have a full list of exciting programs and opportunities to work on for
our members in the coming year.
As many of you know, Judy Sabah is offering an ICF Certification
Class starting in January; if you haven’t had an opportunity to sign
up, visit our website and register. It’s a great way to get the mentor
hours and coaching you need to pass the test!
In February, we are also planning to help our members understand
what they need to get hired by an organization and are working to
build a panel discussion with companies that contract coaches,
wellness companies, HR directors and those who are charged with
hiring coaching. This panel will give you the understanding of what
you need to present and who you need to contact when marketing
your services.

Glen Cooper has coached owners of, appraised and/or sold, over 500

Glen also served many years as a course author and senior instructor for

many professional designations in the fields of commercial real estate
(CCIM), business brokerage (CBI and Fellow of the IBBA) and business

ARTICLE: Coaching Across Cultures – Look for Gems In Your Own Culture
and Mine for Treasures In Others
by Helle Hegelund
Education Director for ICF Colorado
Amita came to me because she was unhappy about her work situation.
During our coaching conversation she realized how much her own
cultural background being raised by Asian-Indian immigrants had a huge
impact on how she perceived herself and her behaviors. Being humble
and accommodating were important values in her culture contributing to
6. harmony and no conflicts. However, it also held her back from expressing
her feelings and needs and as such being fully engaged and satisfied at work.
The awareness of the cultural dimension was an eye opener for Amita and a good starting point for
her journey toward a more satisfying and fulfilling life blending values of her own culture as well as
cultural values and behaviors from the US culture.

Happy Holidays! I am really looking forward to our FUN holiday party at SHIFT workspace with a
fun evening of Improv planned! I have known I should do improv and a friend in HR in corporate

NSA (National Speakers Association) and ASTD (American Society for Training and Development)
