2. The music genre I have chosen to go for is
alternative/ acoustic folk this is primarily why I
have chosen to do a Benjamin Francis Leftwich
song as it fits into these genre conventions
perfectly. Furthermore I chose these genre
characteristics to start with as my results from
my audience reflected to me that folk/acoustic
got the majority of the vote yet closely followed
by alternative/indie, so I decided to listen to my
audience as they are the ones that will make my
music video successful or not, you have to give
the audience what they want to see/hear.
3. What Genre of Music are you into at the Moment?
Folk/ Acoustic
Alternative/ Indie Rock
Hip-hop/ Dance
R&B
Other
4. Considering the music genre I have chosen is folk/
acoustic, Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze would rarely be
used in this music genre. This is because folk/
acoustic music video's are generally shot outside
with the main focus being on the location whereas
music videos that include Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze
are really putting all the emphasis on the artist to
show to the audience how great they are. Although
you could use the ‘notion of looking’ within
acoustic/ alternative folk with the boy or girl for
example singing the song supposedly a ‘love’ song
and the girl/boy looking at them to show the
audience the connection between them and that the
song has real meaning.
5. With a genre of acoustic/ alternative folk the
clothing props and location I use are all going to be
very stereotypical of this genre keeping in theme of
what the audience want. Firstly the outfit will be
very laid back maybe jeans and t-shirt with a coat.
Furthermore not many props are going to be used
but there will e one very iconic one that is featured
in pretty much every acoustic/ alternative folk
music video. Also the location will be outside still
keeping the outdoor and with nature theme flowing
with my genre, it may be shot in fields, or woods
something very stereotypical for this sort of genre
so that it all fits and nothing looks out of place for
the audience.
6. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics.
For example my music video will follow the acoustic/ alternative folk theme by
guitars, the location an the laid back costume of the artist.
There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals. The lyrics are represented with
images.
I will illustrate and emphasize the lyrics to the audience so the understand and
appreciate the song.
There is a relationship between music and visuals. The tone and atmosphere of the
visual reflects that of the music.
For my music video as the pace of the music picks so does the visuals and the other
way round.
The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the
artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work.
My artist will develop there own individual style for my audience will identify
with, with motifs and a lot of the music video will be focused on my artist.
There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within
screens, mirrors, stages, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female
body.
My artist won’t be used through voyeuristic qualities yet the notion of looking maybe
used as the boy looks at the girl if they’re ‘in love’ yet not in a particularly sexual way
to the audience.
There are often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other music videos
etc).
I may use intertextual references within my music video to show the audience what the
artist is influenced by so for example an intertextual reference to a band or song.
