By 2045, people aged 60 and over worldwide will outnumber children under 14 and 80% of these will be living in the developing world. The number of people aged over 60 is predicted to rise steeply over the coming years. People over 60 currently make up 10% of the global population. By 2050, it is estimated that one in five of the population will be aged over 60 However, despite this, the needs of older people are routinely overlooked by governments and non-governmental organisations alike.
