Educational administrator Heather Knight, PhD, has held a number of leadership roles at
institutions of higher education, most recently serving as president of Pacific Union College. To
supplement her work as president and in other executive roles, Dr. Heather Knight holds
membership with professional organizations that include the Council of Independent Colleges and
the Association of American Colleges and Universities Presidents Trust.
3. Advocacy and Public Policy Work at AICCU
Dr. Knight has also served on the Executive Committee of the Association of Independent
California Colleges and Universities (AICCU). Since its founding in 1955, AICCU has worked to
improve lives through higher education and represented the interests of independent colleges and
universities in the state of California. The association provides a range of resources to students
and members, and also engages in advocacy work.
4. Advocacy and Public Policy Work at AICCU
Advocacy at AICCU involves the support of legislation at the state and federal level in the interest
of future students, families, and independent educational institutions. In addition to meeting with
policymakers and conducting research, AICCU advocacy staff publish information and advise
members of relevant policy and legislative developments. Moreover, the organization works closely
with the governor’s office to ensure the state budget prioritizes the higher education community.
