Career Objectives To continue to develop best practice models of fundraising and
development, to build brands and grow business. To direct large teams and
a matrix of relationships which sustain major gift and endowment campaigns
for future sustainability.
Career Summary
25 years working as Company Director, consultant and employee across
Education, Health, Science and Medical Research and the Arts on major
projects exceeding $480M enables me to develop and sustain a big picture
approach.
Regional Development is now the focus of my work in Arts and Education
and capitalises on my role as Fellow of the Gippsland Community
Leadership Program. It is also influenced by my leadership as consultant on
the Thailand Australia Youth Ambassador Program.
My strategic management in philanthropy has been critical to the success of
the projects undertaken. The introduction of Development and Philanthropy
to clients and cultivation of major gifts and transformational giving are the
hallmarks of my work.
Education BSc Social Science – University of Edinburgh
Diploma in Project Management – Australian Institute of Management
Diploma in Art and Design – Wangaratta College of TAFE
EMFIA – Executive Member of the Fundraising Institute of Australia
Background A background in behavioural science (Psychology) and passion for
Philanthropy enables me to build bridges and partnerships in education,
health and non-profit sectors, with an emphasis on equity of access and
diversity.
Contributing to public and private education and community health has been
at the centre of my transitional and transformational work for many years.
In recent years I have personally raised over $50M, from private
philanthropy, philanthropic Trusts and Foundations and Government and
have led teams on projects totalling $480M. My time has been devoted
equally to knowledge management and stakeholder engagement across
Health, Medical Research, Education, Welfare,Arts and the Environment
and to improving quality of life for children and adults, many of whom have
disabilities and have been affected by social disadvantage.

A day in the life and
significant
achievements:
Uniting AgeWell: Manager Fundraising and Development . Significant
achievement :Establishment of a Total Development Program, direct mail
and bequest program in the first year.
Establishing a new Fundraising Department with responsibility for the 21
communities in Tas and Vic in terms of community relations and strategic
fundraising, I led at Executive level, providing strategic plans for all areas i.e.
major gifts, grants, bequests, regular giving and in memoriam gifts.
I managed $24M under stewardship during radical Aged care reforms in
which I also led the strategic marketing for the roll out of ‘client directed care’
including a competitor analysis and production of all marketing collateral.
Florey Institute of Neuroscience:Head of Advancement and Major Gifts
$1.7M raised from major gifts and bequests and design of a $200M
campaign.
Responsible for all alumni relations, major gifts and an award-winning
bequest program I brought alumni in from all over the world to the very first
Alumni Reunion, which I managed solo. I assembled an exhibition of
photography, recording alumni involvement since the inception of the Florey
Institute.
I also designed and managed the first event for donors at the State Library
Red Rotunda and an exhibition curated by the Museum staff ‘Brain Science
through the ages’.
Royal Flying Doctor Service:Director – Donor Relations VIC. $200M
campaign.
Reporting to the Chairman of the Board I developed a national model for
sustainable fundraising, now enacted by RFDS. This overcame the state
specific interests and provided a national marketing model, now in use.
My needs analysis at state level was persuasive in getting the model across.
As an employee, my consulting experience enabled me to deliver ‘above
and beyond the call of duty’.
Bush Heritage Australia: Campaign Director National. $200M campaign.
Advising at Executive level I met regularly with all State Directors and Board
members to develop a national needs analysis.
The campaign I designed was an essay in innovation, using a model I
discovered when working with Accor and Becton on an international
development project.
I secured the first ever $1M gift for the organisation, on a first meeting with a
member of the Murdoch family.
Charles Darwin University: Consultant on Philanthropic Trusts and
Foundations – $30M rais ed for the Centre for Indigenous Futures
multiple projects and mobile adult learning units (MALU’s).
Brought in merely to advise on Trusts and Foundations, I established an
internal consultancy to provide guidance on funding sources, to all
P a g e | 3
faculties and departments.
Collectively we achieved a generous grant from the Higher Education
Endowment Fund (HEEF) for $30M, where I was instrumental in the
design and development of the submission.
Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne:Senior Fundraiser. Multiple projects
– ANZ CHRC (Australia and New Zealand Children’s Heart Research
Centre) and MCRI (Murdoch Children’s Research Institute).
I achieved generous grants from: ANZ Trustees for patient controlled
analgesia, The Victorian Women’s Trust and the Felton Bequest for the
Addressing Family Violence Program, a corporate gift from John Ilhan
(‘Crazy John’ sadly now deceased) and many annual gifts through RFDS
1000 for children’s heart research. I managed every aspect of the RCH
fundraising program including third party fundraising.
My role has since been replaced by a team of four people.
National Heart Foundation: Consultant. Multiple projects, national and
statewide - $.5M raised from Trusts and Foundations in first six months.
Every one of my 12 submissions was successful! Currently only 10% of
submissions to Trusts and foundations in Australia is funded.
InteractAustralia: Manager – Philanthropy. Achieved the highest grant in
Australia for homelessness from Ian Potter Foundation - $240,000.
My role involved the design and development of projects for funding. I
developed 10 projects to be tested in the marketplace and devised
structural solutions to the barriers to funding. My Annual Report fuelled the
work of the Board, to turn the organisation around to profitability.

Almost universally the projects above have demanded strong
knowledge management skills and have benefitted from the broad
and rich experience that I have gained over 25 years, working
internationally with teams, whilst being relatively autonomous as
required.
Each project has brought a need for data capture and analysis,
trend analysis and policy development. Leading teams and being
informed and empathetic towards stakeholders and colleagues have
proven effective in both public relations and fundraising campaigns.
The introduction to clients, of Development and Philanthropy and
cultivation of major gifts and transformational giving have been the
hallmarks of my work.
Creative thinking by communities has provided the best solutions
for the most demanding projects, viewed as they develop over time.
