  2. 2. STRUCTURE OF SENTENCES The sentences in Active voice and Passive voice are different from each other in many ways. They also differ in their structure. Let us see the differentiation in their structure.
  3. 3. ACTIVE VOICE The structure of Active voice is : Subject + Verb + Object (SVO)
  4. 4. TYPE - I The verb is along with –ing form (or) comes alone.
  5. 5. ACTIVE VOICE (Eg) : He is writing a letter. Subject : He Verb : is writing Object : a letter
  6. 6. TYPE - II The verb in the sentence is auxiliary verb.
  7. 7. ACTIVE VOICE (Eg) : She is Sita. Subject : She Verb : is Object : Sita
  8. 8. PASSIVE VOICE The structure of Passive voice is : Object + Verb (V3) + Subject (OVS)
  9. 9. TYPE - I The V3 form of the verb in the sentence changes when the sentence is converted into Passive from Active.
  10. 10. PASSIVE VOICE Base Sentence : He wrote a letter. (Eg) : The letter was written by him. Object : The letter Verb : was written (V3) Subject : by him
  11. 11. TYPE - II The V3 form of the verb in the sentence does not change even when the sentence is converted into Passive from Active.
  12. 12. PASSIVE VOICE (Eg) : I read a book. = Active A book was read by me. = Passive •The base verb in both cases is ‘read’. •It remains same, in both the cases.
  13. 13. Convert the following into Passive voice : 1. He read a novel. 2. He does not obey his teachers. 3. Why do you waste time ? 4. Who teaches you English ? 5. He did not help me.
  14. 14. Convert the following into Passive voice : 6. I told her a story. 7. What did he buy ? 8. Whom did you meet ? 9. Did you read this novel ? 10. I shall help him.
  15. 15. Convert the following into Active voice : 1. Will this house be sold by you ? 2. By whom will the bill be paid ? 3. I shall not disturb you. 4. We are being waited by her. 5. A letter was being written by him.
  16. 16. Convert the following into Passive voice : 6. My work was not being done by me. 7. This book has been read by her. 8. I have not been helped by him. 9. The food has already cooked by him. 10. The pack has been received by him.
  17. 17. Differentiation between Active voice and Passive Voice Sentences.
  18. 18. Active Voice Passive Voice Subject performs the action expressed by the verb. The subject receives the action expressed by the verb. More clarity and straight forward sentence. Less clarity and does not express the meaning straight forward. Subject + Verb + Object Object + Verb + Subject
