2. INTRODUCTION
KWS is a state corporation mandated to conserve and manage wildlife in Kenya and enforce
the “WILDLIFE CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT ACT 2013” and related laws and regulations.

3. KWS oversees about 20% of the country’s landmass (582,646
Km2) managed through 8 administratively based conservation
areas
23 National Parks – 30,348.29 km2 (5.2%)
28 National Reserves – 16,478.40 km2 (2.8%)
4 Marine Parks – 70.09 km2 (0.01%)
6 Marine National Reserves – 76.00 km2 (0.12%)
5 National Sanctuaries – 71.34 km2 (0.001%)

Around 175 Conservancies – 11%

12. NATURE SCHOOLS – HANDS ON CLIMATE ACTION
Installation of gutters for water

Preparation of seed beds

13. Carbon credit programmes
• Youth are also engaged in carbon credit programmes in Tsavos,
Chyulu, Kasigau, Mt. Kenya, Lamu areas etc. The youth learn about
carbon trade and its role in climate mitigation and for some it is a
source of livelihood as well.
14. CONCLUSION
Through various programmes we propagate the
message about wise use of resources and
conservation of nature. These are the core of climate
actions.
