Erik Erikson Eight Stages Of Psychosocial
Development
• Personality in human beings develops in a pre determined
order to eight stages of psycho social development.
• Psycho= psychological needs of the individual.
• Social= conflicting needs of the society.
• Erikson's point of view is that each stage has its own unique
challenge that he called crises
• Successful completion of each stage is the result of
a acquisition of basic virtues which is basically our
strength which human ego use the power to resolve
human crises.
• In the development of human ego Erikson's stressed
the importance of social interaction
Erik Erikson's Stages of Psychosocial Development
Trust Vs Mistrust
• Basic trust vs basic Mistrust
• Infant depends on the primary care giver ( mother)
• Result=hope
• Virtue= hope challenges will eventually result in positive
outcomes.
• In consistent care= lake of hope with drawl (very
dangerous)
• Infant is completely alien to the world around self.
• They called for help
Autonomy vs shame
• Toddler struggle to gain the autonomy and basically and
basically control
• Orally functioned sand small motor skills like walking,
talking, using a toddler legs, dressing up one self
increasingly they would actually want to do this thing
without older help but cannot alone the time
• Balance needs that created by parents. Let the
child some thing do with own self.
• Successful completion of this stage leads to
virtue of will.
Children needs to encourage to be independent
but at the same time discipline needs for the
next step all is about balance.
Initiative Vs Guilt
• The primary feature the child interacting with other
children, parent, neighborhood, social so it’s a miss
interaction stage.
• Children develop their impersonal skills by planning up
activities making up games, and initiating activities with
others
• The most important aspect of this stage student ask
questions about any thing and every where.
• If the child questions are tricky the child may
develop the feelings of guilt.
• Although some guilt is necessary bits the right
balance that will lead actually the virtue of purpose.
Industry Vs Inferiority
• Industry refers to being industrious or hard working
or competent.
• Children in this stage here to read and write some
mathematics and do things in their own.
• Teachers play an important role in this stage in the
child life and they teach them specific skills.
• Child also learn to win recognition by doing things
rite by producing things.
• In this stage the study encouragement leads to the stage of
competence.
• Successful leads to the competence
• And the lack of leads to the development inertia and
inferiority in the child.
• Very important things is that is to create a balance.
Identity vs role confusion
• Adolescences leads to bodily changes
• Also leads to changes in expectation with oneself and with
society around oneself
• Adolescence search for self of identity for the exploration of
and integration of personal values ( belief and goals)
• Then they asked what is our role in society.
• They start to looking their goals. Career relationship
• Now the conflict here fir parents
• How much freedom to actually grant?
• And how much control to assume?
• The young person now both a child and an adult
• Success of the stage leads to the virtue of fidelity.
• Fidelity mean: committing one self to others
or accepting others to despite ideological
differences.
• So again very important stage of development.
Intimacy vs isolation
• During this period some people explore relationships that
leading towards long term commitments sometimes these
relationship are someone other than a family member some
opposite sex some same sex
• Avoidance of intimacy/fear of commitments can often lead
to isolation or loneliness and in some cases also depression.
• Success in this stage will lead to virtue of love.
Generativity vs stagnation
• Experience is need to create nurture things tht don’t
think about present anymore they think about future
generation they create positive change that benefit
other peoples
• Some people appraising children
• Some involve in community activity.
• They just want give benefit of the society in this stage.
• Success in this stage leads to the feeling of
uselessness and accomplishment.
• The virtue here is about care
• The failure in this stage leads to feeling of
stagnation a feeling of being hollow
• A feeling of being unproductive.
Ego Internity vs despair
• Final stage
• Time to span their achievements
• Peoples look back to achievements failure and decision and
their impacts of this decision.
• The outcome basically depends on how we individual
actually decide to perceive our journey in life
• Individual that feels life of unproductiveness leads to
despair an unsatisfied life and what ever it might be that
actually some feelings of guilt
• Can actually how we feeling of depression and
hopelessness.
• Individual at this stage look back into their life and analyze
their life and successful analysis of their life that leads to
virtue of wisdom being the personal closure and
satisfaction.
• otherwise this leads to depression and all things negative
