HAAMID AMJAD
To begin I would describe myself as my 8 year old nephew describes me, a ‘maker’, I have always felt the need to adjust
or recreate things with a specific touch because I believe that everyone is unique and therefore ‘generic’ isn’t good
enough. I always work to the best of my ability, and I will always be honest about my opinion of how I performed, I
would say I am neither self criticising or self applauding. I simply try my best.
Although I have always been interested in designing, my academic interest only began when I had the opportunity in
high school to study resistant materials as a GCSE however I found that my design process was incredibly dissimilar to
the linear process, I would have to, and in effect continue to have to present my work in. This process is visualised in a
graphic I created for ‘My Design Process’ in my portfolio. In essence I had to find a balance through my academic career
on the ideal way to present my work without leaving out indispensable details.
From 2012 when I finished high school till present I have worked at a local timber merchants as a s ales representative;
during this time I also attended full time at Huddersfield New College, studying Use of Mathematics as well as a double
BTEC Higher level Science and A-level Physics. I have always liked maths and physics and have generally been good a t
both; however my interest in both subjects was mainly due to the usability or applicability to making. I often, even now,
use mathematics and physics principles in the work I create.
I currently attend Sheffield Hallam University doing my Undergraduate Degree in BSC HON Architectural Technology;
completing my second year, leading into my placement year in the spring of 2016. The skills and experience gained at
Hallam so far has been truly invaluable. Every module is real world based, and the work environment between colleagues
being constructional as opposed to critical is incredibly helpful to professional development. As well as this the tutorship
pushing students to think about every aspect of Architectural Design and Technology.
Finally collating all these aspects of my personal history and achievements, I am motivated to achieve a goal and create
and end product, or provide the perfect service; even learning new and specific skills to achieve such tasks.

Summary
I have always been interested in design, as I mentioned once in my statement for my UCAS application. “Designing in
reality sometimes leads a simple project to become complex because one often has to deal with physical limitations such
as finding the ideal site, best materials, and construction method. Then to collate all these aspects into an aesthetically
pleasing design, making a simple project seem impossible”. My interest in designed is based upon utilising knowledge of
geography, workability of materials and construction skill to make the impossible a reality.
