CAREER ACTION PLAN
MY AIM IS: To apply for biomedical scientist (band 5) graduate entry jobs
preferably in the NHS.
Step 1. Look at different sectors and roles to see what I would
be most interested in and enjoy for example, haematology.
Step 2. Attend various career fairs as well as have a look on
Handshake and LinkedIn for possible jobs and complete my CV.
Step 3. Apply for as many relevant jobs that I can find and am
Step 4. Be prepared for any job interviews as well as complete
Step 5. Also explore other career options or even a
postgraduate degree that may be of interest.
I will achieve this using the following SMART steps:
(Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant)
What problems am I likely to face?
As I live in Rotherham, I ideally would prefer to find a job nearby however, I know this isn’t
always possible as there aren’t many scientist jobs available here and when there are they
usually go very quickly. As someone who will have just newly graduated, I may not have
as much experience as another individual.
What will I do to overcome these and what help/support is available?
I need to make sure I prepare myself for interviews and make a good impressions as well
as be open to travel further away as there may be other opportunities that I’m interested in
that just require me to travel further. I also need to keep my options open and look at other
sectors that may be of interest to me.
