'Gaydar Radio' co-founder Gary Frisch, aged 38, was found dead below the
balcony of his eighth-floor flat in southwest London last Saturday afternoon.
Wandsworth CID is treating the death as 'unexplained' and is investigating the
circumstances.
Gaydar had planned a party to celebrate its fifth birthday this week as the UK’s
first full-time gay radio station. The company issued a statement saying that
the event would go ahead as planned: “Gaydar Radio was one of Gary’s
proudest achievements to date and that is what he would have wanted”.
Frisch had moved from South Africa to the UK in 1997 and co-founded the IT
consultancy firm QSoft, before launching the Gaydar website in 1999, now the
world’s most popular online dating forum.
Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell paid tribute: “Gary and Gaydar have had
a huge impact on the gay culture. They have created an unprecedented online
community and now branched out into radio. Gary will be long remembered by
the hundreds of thousand of gay people who have benefited from the Gaydar
phenomenon he helped create."
