clothing... showing what looks to be real footage of a

to emphasis what's happening, underlining that this is

used in the 'Three Years Later' clip emphasising that this
is what's happened over time, showing you the whole

high technology is being used here, its mainly the man or woman
making it themselves...
• Information regarding mood and tone: The flashing images and quick
shots of something being made is telling the audience something it sets
a mysterious mood and spooky tone highlighting the thriller genre.
• Details of Film production companies: At the beginning of the opening
sequence the first thing to be credited is ‘New line cinema presents’
along with cast and crew...

• Mise en scene: The props that are used add special
effect to the crime/drama genre the book and film
tape its beginning to create a story. The hands look
worn and dirty creating an image of ruthlessness
underlining that it is a thriller film.
• Camera techniques: Throughout the opening
sequence of Se7en extreme close up shots are used
to show the hands the tools and props being used.
The extreme close ups hint about the danger to
come but don’t give everything away too quickly,
questioning the audience.

creating urgency and danger. Also, the lightning is
dark and gloomy enhancing the thriller genre. The
credits are in a abnormal font portraying confusion
and spookiness.
• Sound and Music: The sound is a gloomy mysterious
soundtrack that starts of very slow and gradually gets
faster and faster creating suspense of what's to
come. There is added diegetic sounds to add realism
for example like the turning of the book page and the
cutting of the pieces of paper.
