INTRODUCTION

by Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerfin the 1970 and became the
standard networking protocol on the ARPANET.
Tim Berners-Lee When first invented World Wide Web in

 Wireless Internet Connections
 Mobile internet connectivity has played an important role in
expanding access in recent years especially in Asia and the
Pacific and in Africa.
 As of 2017, almost 70 per cent of the world’s population had
access to a 4Gbroadband cellular network.
 5G [the fifth generation of mobile technology] is coming, IP
ADDICTION
Internet addiction is defined as the compulsive urge to
continually use the Net, whether it be to spend hours surfing
the Web, hang around in chartrooms, or play on-line games
etc.
MY THOUGHTS
I believe that everyone has some form of internet addiction. The
severity of the addiction is what differs.
 Technology plays a huge role in today’s society.
 We rely on the internet for information and other daily
activities.
 Anyone using the internet for more than two hours a day
outside work commitments
 Most jobs require the use of internet/computer for job-related
functions.
STATEMENT
Youth agree with the positive and negative effects of
technology.
1.Internet used education and other activities but also
increases mental frustration
2.Technology is now a days a part of their necessities but
also their health is affected by technology like computer/internet .
WHAT MAKES INTERNET USE ADDICTIVE?
 It is accessible 24/7
 It can be anonymous
 It feels secure
 It is easy to use
 It can be inexpensive
POSITIVE vs NEGATIVE:
PROS:
 We would be able to talk friends , family who are away for
anywhere at anytime.
 Faster business transactions and cheaper products
 We would be able to stay updated with the world
 Savings on travel cost
CON’S:
 Loss of the human touch
 Children, young adults and even adults get addicted to
games online
 Some criminals use the internet for spreading computer
viruses or even intercepting credit card or bank details
for spurious purposes.
Energy usage
In 2011, researchers estimated the energy used by the
Internet to be between 170 and 307 GW, less than two
percentage of the energy used by humanity. This estimate
included the energy needed to build, operate, and periodically
replace the estimated 750 million laptops, a billion smart
phones and 100 million servers worldwide as well as the
energy that routers, cell towers, optical switches, Wi-Fi
transmitters and cloud storage devices use when transmitting
Internet traffic.
Types of internet addiction
Internet chatting addiction
Everyone is chatting and now some cannot stop chatting.
This can also include the use of Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter
and any other social networking sites. Many times users will
withdraw from physical social interactions to engage in virtual
interactions.
Web surfing
This type of addiction means that you do need online
addiction help. You may find yourself surfing the web and
looking up information constantly, and this can cause
informational overload.
Internet gaming addiction
• Gaming addiction is probably the most talked about
internet addiction. Probably because we are seeing so
many children and adolescence losing control on this type
of internet addiction. The games that are most addictive
are those that are played real timewith real people.
Shopping addiction
• Shopping addiction related to a psychological individual
disorder of impulse control it is defined as the deficiency
of impulse control which appears as the eagerness for
constantly making new purchases of unnecessary things.
It is a concept similar to "compulsive buying disorder" or
"oniomania",.
The effects of Internet on Children
Internet can be dangerous, and there are harmful effects
when misused potentially, inflicting social and psychological
damage on children and pushing them into leading isolated,
antisocial lives in a virtual world away from real life. And internet
addiction affects negatively his or her scholastic performance,
relationship with the family and psychological health.
Encourage other Interests and
social activities
 Get the child out from behind the
computer screen
 Expose kids to other hobbies and
activities. Such as them team sports,
boy or girl scouts and after school
clubs

EFFECTS OF ADDICTION
 PHYSICAL EFFECTS:
Overuse internet can lead to sedentary lifestyles, weight
gain and a deterioration in physical fitness. Other symptoms can
include carpal tunnel syndrome, dry eyes, migraine headaches, a
poor personal hygiene and backaches.
DEPRESSION
Surfing the internet can expose a 'dark side' of the soul,
with online addicts more likely to be depressed. Psychologist
found the longer people spent on websites, the more unhappy
they were. Those worst affected are both depressed and
addicted, possibly because they are substituting the net for
normal social activities.
Sleep Disorder
Overuse internet can contribute to sleep disorder.
Computer use among adolescents was associated with later bed
times, later waking times, less restful sleep and an overall
decrease in sleep. The use of computers before bedtime causes
insomnia because of the light from screen
SOCIAL EFFECTS
Internet addiction affects social life. They might present
some emotions such as withdrawal, feeling angry, tense, or
depressed when the Internet is not available, excessive Internet
use, resulting in a loss of time, (which is a very precious thing),
mood swings, including arguments, lying, isolation, fatigue, and
poor achievement of goals.
Other symptoms
 Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
 Dry Eyes
 Headaches
 Back Aches
 Eating irregularities (skipping meals)
 Isolation and obesity
 Inability to stop the activity
 Neglect of family and friends
 Feeling empty, depressed, irritable when not at the internet
HOW TO OVERCOME INTERNET ADDICTION?
STEP1 : Determine how much time you spend on internet per
week.
STEP 2
Use the chart below to decide if you are addicted to the
Internet.
• 10 or less hours: not addicted. Good job.
• 11-15 hours: not an addiction yet. You just need to cut down
on your time.
• 16-25 hours: Somewhat addicted.
• 26+:you are Extremely addicted
STEP 3
 Slowly shorten the amount of time you allow yourself on the
Internet.
 Set a timer if necessary
 Reduce to 2 hours per day or less and get on with the
remainder of your life.
STEP 4
If you are on the Internet for an excessive amount of
time, you will need to find substitute activities :
 Develop new hobbies.
Start gardening
Take up walking or jogging or doing exercise
Reading Books or Articles to distract you from the Internet
CONTROL YOUR SELF !!
USE THE INTERNET SMART !!
THANK YOU!!!
