Democratizing Data

   Before Vivek Kundra became Federal CIO,
       he was Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
                in Washington D.C.


     As CTO, Kundra pushed the boundaries of
        Information Technology setting the
           standard for transparency and
                  accountability.
Democratizing Data

   Adopted Google Apps as a collaboration platform

   Video taped vendor interactions and posted on
    YouTube

   Instituted a rigorous regime of metrics and
    accountability for government contracts.

   Launched the contest "Apps for Democracy"
    encouraging developers to create applications for
    the Web and cell phones that would give District
    residents more access to city data.
