2. MISSION OF
TOURISM
Department of Tourism (DOT) shall be the primary government
agency charged with the responsibility to encourage, promote, and
develop tourism as a major socioeconomic activity to generate
foreign currency and employment and to spread the benefits of
tourism to both the private and public sector.
3. WHAT IS THE MANDATE OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM (DOT)?
Planning, programming, coordination, regulatory government
agency in the development and promotion of tourism.
4. R.A.9593 TOURISM ACT 2009
R.A. 9593 was approved by the President on May 12, 2009 and was published in the
Official Gazette on July 13,2009. Approved by Congress as SENATE BILL
2213/HOUSE BILL 5229, entitled:
“AN ACT DECLARING A NATIONAL POLICY FOR
TOURISM AS AN ENGINE OF INVESTMENT,
EMPLOYMENT, GROWTH AND NATIONAL
DEVELOPMENT AND STRENGTHENING THE DOT, ITS ATTACHED AGENCIES,
TO EFFECTIVELY IMPLEMENT
THAT POLICY.... “

5. DOT-ATTACHED AGENCIES
AND CORPORATION
Section 29 of the tourism Act 2009 states
that the following agencies and
corporations shall be attached to the
Department and shall be under the
supervision of the Secretary for policy and
program coordination while continuing to
operate under their respective charters.
8. • The Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation
(PCVB)- Philippine Tourism Promotion Board (PTPB)
• Responsible for Marketing and promoting the Philippines
domestically and internationally as major global tourism
destination, highlighting the uniqueness, and assisting
the development of its tourism product and service, with
the end in view of increasing tourist arrival and tourism
investments; marketing the Philippine as a major
(MICE).
10. • Designate, regulate, and supervise the TEZ established under
the Act.
• Develop, manage , and supervise tourism infrastructure
projects in the country.
• Supervise and regulate the cultural, economic, and
environmentally sustainable development of TEZ towards the
primary objective of encouraging investments therein.
• Ensure strict compliance by the TEZ operator with the
approved development plan. Pursuant thereto, the TIEZA shall
have the Power to impose penalties for failure or refusal of the
tourism enterprises to comply with the approved development
plan, which shall also be considered a violation of the terms of
registration.
12. • Section 91 of the tourism Act of 2009Mandates that Duty Free
Philippines Corporation (DFPC)is hereby organized as a
government corporation that shall be a body corporate to operate
The duty DUTY and tax-free merchandising system in the
philippines to augment the service facilities for tourist And
returning Filipino travelers to generate foreign exchange and
revenue for the government.
• Exclusive authority to operate and/or franchise out the operation
of stores and shops that shall sell, among others, duty and tax
free merchandise, goods and article in international airports and
seaports, other port entry throughout the country and in TEZs.
13. • Authorize to operate stores and shops within the
immediate vicinity of international airports and seaports to
service the requirements of arriving and departing
passengers.
• Operate without prejudice to any privatization in the future,
subject to existing laws on privatization and procedure on
public bidding
15. • Whose main function are to restore Instramuros and promote it
as a tourist destination.
• It is also called Walled City.
• It is oldest district and historic core of Manila
17. • It tasked is to develop, preserve, and manage RIZAL and
PACO park in the Manila and other park that may be
assigned to NPDC
• Upgrade and maintain assigned park including its facilities ,
park ground and landscape themes , building, and
structures.
• Develop and implement cultural and educational support
programs and services particularly those in support of
national and cultural heritage
• Improve financial viability in support of NPDC’s mission.
• Ensure safety, orderliness and cleanliness in assigned park.
• Undertake development of new parks. Establish inter-agency
linkage in support of agency program
19. • Manages the Nayong Pilipino Park the only
cultural park in the country that serves as the
country’s miniature.
• Also known for showcasing the Philippine
culture, history and nature showcasing the
whole Philippine experience in a one stop
venue.
21. • It is mandated to attract foreign nationals and
former Filipino citizens to invest, reside and
retire in the Philippines with the end-view of
accelerating the socio-economic
development of the country, contributing to
the foreign currency reserve of the economy
and by providing them the best quality of life
in the most attractive package.
23. • This intensifies measures to provide the standard basic dive
rules to all levels or kinds of divers; to regulate Self
Contained Breathing Apparatus(SCUBA), sports and
Underwater technical diving in the country; and to coordinate
closely with the Office of Tourism Standards and Regulations
for accreditation process.
• Promulgate programs and projects geared to the
development of the country as a premier diving area in
Asia.Formulate rules, regulations, safety standards, and
operating procedures to implement the development of sport
SCUBA diving.
24. • Shall undertake studies, researches, and
survey for possible incentives to the private
sectors who may wish to undertake projects
and programs beneficial to the development
of SCUBA diving tourism.

programs on marine conservation,
particularly those areas of high touristic value
