What Is Psychology?
Psychology is the scientific study of all aspects of human behaviour. There
are many divisions within psychology, and one of these is social
psychology. Social psychology focuses on how human beings interact with
each other. The field of sociology, which is a part of this branch, studies
society as a whole and how people behave in groups. Other areas include
cognitive psychology and developmental psychology.
Psychology is a vast discipline that includes study on topics such as the
scientific understanding of human behavior, the diagnosis and treatment of
mental disorders, how human beings learn and grow throughout the
lifespan, how culture shapes our values and behaviors, personality
development, and much more. The foundational principles of psychology
are:
Psychology is the study of the human mind and behavior. It is a social science that deals with
individual and group behavior.
There are many theoretical perspectives in Psychology. They are all based on the following
principles:
1) Reality exists independently from our perception of it.

2) Behavior is controlled by mental processes, which can be hidden from us.

3) Behavior is shaped by our past experiences and shaped by society as well as culture, which
means that it can vary across time periods and cultures.

4) Behavior cannot be explained solely through the individual's personality or biology; we need
to consider the environment in which an individual lives, including other people in that
environment who have their own personalities and biology which will shape how they interact
with others around them.

5) Learning happens through a process of trial-and-error learning, where we make mistakes and
then correct them based on feedback from our environment (including other people).
