Audience Research
Gabrielle Nkansa-Yeboah
Introduction
 The media product is targeted at an audience of 16-24

years.
 Audience research was conducted using a survey, in
order to gain feedback about our initial ideas from the
target audience.
 This will allow further development to the film product
as well as gain insight into what our audience wants and
the direction that we should be heading towards.
How old are you?
A majority of the responses
gained came from participants
aged 16-20.
Only 25% of the responses were
from participants aged 21-25. This
suggests that the feedback gained
were predominantly based on the
participants who were aged 1620. As a result limited responses
were gained from everyone within
the target audience.
Do you enjoy watching film dramas?
The feedback gained from this
result suggests that our target
audience enjoy watching film
dramas and therefore will be
interested in our film. As a
result we have selected the
right genre to appeal to our
target audience making it an
effective choice.
Do you find our story idea interesting?
The results suggests that all the
participants found the pitch
proposed concerning our film
idea interesting. This suggests that
the story idea appealed to the
audience which enables us to
move forward effectively with the
film idea and apply further
developments.
What name do you think best suits our film idea?
A number of possible film titles were
created and then proposed to our
audience. This was to find out which name
they preferred and suited our film idea the
best. The results suggest that the majority
preferred the name “seven steps” . This
may be due to the simplicity of the name
and also its relation to our film concept. In
which the character embarks on a journey
using seven key steps. As a result the name
chosen imposes that the film involves a
journey or a quest which is the message we
want to send across. Therefore making it a
successful name for our film.
What makes a trailer stand out for
you?
This question provided information
about what made a trailer appealing
to our target audience. We included
some of the main features used in a
trailer, such as music, edits, texts etc.
The results show that the majority of
participants found the music, edits
and scenes used most appealing to
them in a trailer and stand out
amongst others. The music used was a
particular feature used in trailers that
appealed to them. Furthermore when
creating our film trailer we will
consider the choice of music, edits
and scenes used in order to appeal to
our audience.
When watching a movie trailer how much of the story do
you prefer to be told?
The majority responded saying they
preferred to be told enough of the
story to understand in a trailer. This
suggests that the audience still want
the story line to be given away in a
trailer but not too much. For
example they may prefer half of the
story to remain a mystery in the
trailer. This makes the trailer more
exciting and also effective. For
example n enigma code may be set
to engage the audience and
encourage them to want to see the
film. This will be included in our
trailer in order to achieve this.
Conclusion
The feedback gained from the target audience about the
initial ideas and the development of the product was very
beneficial. For example it provided information about the
audience’s interests and also ways of making the product
appealing. This as a result allows us to make informative
decisions based on our audience’s feedback as well improve
the products effectiveness.
