AAP to contest all 403 assembly seats in UP, it would be a mistake to consider party a minnow, says senior leader Sanjay Singh
Lucknow: Asserting
that Aam Aadmi Party
(AAP) would contest all
403 assembly seats in
Uttar Pradesh, senior
leader Sanjay Singh has
said it would be a mis-
take to consider AAP a
minnow as it had
emerged “stronger”
than the Congress in
the recent panchayat
polls.
The Arvind Kejriwal-
led AAP made it clear
that it is not in talks
with any other party for
an alliance in the UP as-
sembly election due
early next year.
“Our party is strong-
er than the Congress in
the state. While the
Congress won 40 seats
in panchayat polls, we
scored a victory in
83panchayats. AAP got
over 40 lakh votes in
these polls, where 1600
party candidates con-
tested,” Singh, who
is AAP’s UP in-
charge, told PTI in an
interview.
“We are preparing to
contest on all 403 seats
alone. We are presently
not in talks for an alli-
ance with any other
party. Our focus is to
strengthen our base in
the state and in the past
one and a half months,
we have made over one
crore members,” Singh
said. “The party has
made Vidhan Sabha
incharges in 100-150
seats and our lead-
ers are meeting
those who want to
contest,” said
49-year-old Singh
who hails from
Sultanpur in
U t t a r
Pradesh.
Singh, who is a Rajya
Sabha MP, said the
main issue to be raised
by the AAP in the as-
sembly elections “will
be BJP’s nationalism
versus AAP’s national-
ism”. “BJP’s national-
ism is fake. Its national-
ism is full of hatred and
communalism. At the
same time, the national-
ism of the AAP is pro-
viding good
education,

health..,”

bulence in the politi-
cal spectrum is ob-
served. So far there
has been a conveni-
ent musical chair be-
tween Congress and
the BJP in states. Af-
ter the emergence of
AAP, people got to
know about the pow-
er of the Opposition.
The inefficient Con-
gress gradually went
on the backfoot after
the AAP started play-
ing the role of Oppo-
sition from the
front.” “There was
no one who chal-
lenged the non-per-
forming chief minis-
ter or the govern-
ment in the state.
Congress does not
have that ability as it
is a compromised Op-
position. It is AAP
that has challenged
the BJP. It came un-
der pressure. AAP
made BJP under-
stand: either perform
or perish. Be it Utta-
rakhand or Gujarat
where the AAP has
entered BJP had to

ence of AAP is grow-
ing in Gujarat. AAP

Patel may not even find a berth in the new cabinet.
According to some political analysts, Nitin Patel is
solely responsible for his political career reaching a
dead end. Earlier on Sunday, he told media persons
that the party high command should elect a popular
leader in the state, who can carry all communi-
ties together, has experience in administration, as
well as running various state departments. Patel,
through his statement, was trying to cement his
position as the state’s new CM; however, the party
high command had other plans. Patel’s strength
and experience worked against his ambitions, and
the party decided to drop him from the running
altogether.
Secondly, he was alleged to be the mastermind
behind the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS)
movement of 2015, which led to Chief Minister
Anandiben Patel’s resignation. In 2017, when he
was denied the chief minister’s post, he openly re-
volted against the party decision. His strained rela-
tions with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had severely
damaged the party’s interests. Now when the state
government was blamed for poor performance,
Patel could not escape from the criticism of being
the second in command in the government.
Speculation is rife that the
deputy chief minister may not even
find a berth in the new cabinet

hours before Vijay Ru-

speculation was rife
for over a year that the
national leadership
would replace him. Ac-
cording to sources, Ru-

from Delhi on Friday
night and was in-

Saturday before 2 pm.
The party’s national
leadership denied Ru-

more time and he was
told in no uncertain

Rupani had no
choice but to abide by
the party’s orders, and
he submitted his resig-
nation to the governor
before the deadline.
According to sourc-

called to Delhi to clar-

the BJP national lead-

with his functioning.
Some state leaders
who were together on
Saturday at Sardard-

Before the proposed

this. Earlier he had

Shazia Farooqi while
applauding the RSS
chief’s statements said
that development of any
country can be only as-
sured if citizens have
unity among them and
trust in their govern-
ment.
Ansari pointed out
that Bhagwat said that
all Indians carry the
same DNA and have the
same ancestors. He said
that the minority com-
munity was lacking in
education and the gov-
ernment should build
schools, madrassas and
colleges for them.
Ansari said that the
statement of RSS chief
should be appreciated
as it will lead to social
harmony and brother-
hood. He said that the
RSS chief has talked of
unity at a time when
atrocities on minorities
are frequent.
Social harmony can
lead to development

said.
Shazia said, “I am an

ndia, perhaps, now occupies
the driving seat for the rest of
the world in the ongoing po-
liticalturmoilinAfghanistan.
Both Russia and America
now realize how they were
“fooled” by the Pakistani
army and it’s “hybrid” civil-
ian government led by Imran
Khan.
The Chinese leadership
also now realizes that as the
“patron” of the Taliban-ISI
government, it has to cough
up its resources to feed the
two starving nations, Paki-
stan and Afghanistan.
Earlier, Russia had allowed
Pakistan to use its facilities in
Kazakhstan to bomb the re-
sistance forces entrenched in
the Panjshir Valley
. The Chi-
nese spy satellites helped Pa-
kistanibombersanddronesto
hit the targets with precision.
The Panjshir occupation
also wrote the final epitaph
of the world’s only Super-
power under President Joe
Biden. He, however, asks his
CIA chief Burns to visit New
Delhi to explore the possibil-
ity of redeeming his coun-
try’s prestige as well as re-
gaining his personal image.
He expects that with Indi-
an support, America should
explore a face-saving alibi to
camouflage his “cowardice
act” of abandoning the brave
people of Afghanistan. Biden
had claimed that the Afghan
forces had failed to resist the
Taliban. However, the world
is now fully aware of the fact
that Americans had connived
with the Pakistani Generals
to allow a walkover to the
Taliban forces to occupy Ka-
bul. Also, the Afghan com-
manders too were told not to
resist the invading forces.
Every day
, the new exposures
reveal the American narra-
tive being reeled oute by the
American media. It has fur-
thered suffered, when the
world witnessed the Afghan
women boldly facing the
Talibani goons having the
support of the Pakistani
army and it’s intelligence
outfit, ISI, pointing out auto-
matic rifles on their breast.
The agitators were also
raising anti-Pakistan slogans
protesting the Pakistani
bombing of the Panjshir Val-
ley. The world witnessed the
exemplary courage of facing
the ‘brutal force’, there were
now few takers of Biden’s
“lies”.The gunmen much to
the discomfiture of their
mentors in Islamabad could
not dare to open fire on the
unarmed women. Their
trainers had wished that
they should kill the women
and violate them as they had
done to the women of East
Pakistan, now Bangladesh.
In spite of the instructions
of the Haqqani network, the
Paki proxy which functions
directly under the GHQ in
Rawalpindi, to crush the pro-
testors also raising anti- Pa-
kistan slogans, the Taliban
soldiers did not open fire on
the unarmed women.In a bid
to inculcate fear and awe of
the barbaric force the Haqqa-
ni network was keen to repli-
cate what China had done at
the Tiananmen Square mas-
sacre in April 1989.
Meanwhile, China too has
a belated realization that the
new Afghan Government is
just an extension of the ISI.
It appears that Russia has
ultimately realized that it’s
advice to India was a blunder
that not to “assist” the Resist-
ance Forces”, though she had
an airbase with ready to fly
jet fighters in Kazakhstan.
The situation in Afghani-
stan continues to be fluid.It
will also be difficult for the
Chinese president, Xi Jin-
ping, to repeat the experi-
ment of Myanmar, where the
Chinese had successfully in-
fluenced the Myanmar army
chief, Min Aung Hlaing, to
put the democratic leader,
Aung Saan Suu Kyi, and oth-
ers behind the bar and im-
pose martial law. In its bid to
establish the road-link to My-
anmar’s ports, it wanted a
subservient government in
the country, which could be
achieved. Maybe,it was diffi-
cult to force a democratically
elected government to yield
to it’s never ending demands.
For this, she had to be pre-
vented from retaining power,
though she had signed a num-
ber of trade agreements with
China. Xi Jinping was keen to
have a docile regime. There-
fore, the military regime to be
installed for extracting maxi-
mum profits from the coun-
try. A similar strategy is be-
ing worked out by China of-
fering its surplus dollars to
Iran, Russia, and Pakistan.
With the disenchantment of
Russia, there are few chances
that the new alignment would
finally succeed in subjugat-
ing the people of the region.
The recent unfolding of
the events in Afghanistan,
except France, has also re-
vealed that NATO is just a
‘paper tiger’, and the Anglo-
American posture for democ-
racy is just rhetoric without
substance.
Meanwhile,the apologists
for the western powers, and
the US-based journalists, es-
pecially like Fareed Zakaria,
offer a weak defense for the
US President, Joe Biden, and
Pentagon that under tremen-
dous political pressure the
American-led NATO forces
had to abandon Afghanistan
leaving military hardware
worth billions of USD, but
they do not justify that how
could they surrender the
freedom-loving people of the
country to the “atrocious re-
pressive” regime of the Tali-
ban having logistic, political
and military support of the
totalitarian regimes of Paki-
stan and China.
The great game, which had
begun two decades ago in Af-
ghanistan, is now ready to hit
India. With the retreat of the
US-led NATO forces from the
region and succumbing of
Russia before the China-Pak
nexus, India is the only coun-
try fighting for human rights
and democracy, while the oc-
togenarian US President, Joe
Biden finally concedes the
retreat, if not the defeat, be-
fore the Dragon.

AFTER RAP FROM
SUPREME COURT,
GOVT FILLS NCLT,
ITAT VACANCIES
he Supreme Court’s
rap has its effect.
Within a week of the
Apex Court express-
ing its strong dis-
pleasure at the delay in filling
vacancies in tribunals, the Cen-
tral government cleared 31
names for appointment to Na-
tional Company Law Tribunal
(NCLT) and Income-Tax Appel-
late Tribunal (ITAT). The NCLT
deals with company law and in-
solvency cases. The Supreme
Court had taken umbrage at the
Centre for not appointing mem-
bers to these tribunals.
Slamming the government, a
three-judge Bench headed by the
CJI NV Ramana and comprising
Justice L. Nageswara Rao and
Justice DY Chandrachud said on
September 6, “You are testing
the patience of the Court; no re-
spect for our judgments.” The
Bench was also upset with the
enactment of Tribunals Re-
forms Bill which went against
two earlier orders of the court.
The NCLT is a quasi judicial
body which deals with corporate
disputes. The ITAT is where
thousands of income-tax payees
go to seek redress of their griev-
ances, both equally important
for their respective roles.

T
o some, Swami

only nationalism.
That is how his
name has been used in recent
years to build up a frenzy
about nationalism. There’s
nothing wrong in being a na-
tionalist but there’s more to
the revered Swami’s speech-
es and writings than nation-
alism. He also spoke of secu-
larism with equal passion.
And it is the Chief Justice of
India NV Ramana who, on
the 128th anniversary of
Swami Vivekananda’s his-
toric speech at the World Par-
liament of Religions in Chi-
cago, reminded Indians that
Swamiji “propagated the
idea of tolerance and univer-
sal acceptance” way back in
1893. “He analyzed the dan-
gers posed by the meaning-
less and sectarian conflicts
in society to the nations to
the nations and civiliza-
tions,” the CJI said.
In a subtle hint to those
promoting intolerance in the
name of religion CJI Rama-
na said, “Long before the
painful churning took place
in the subcontinent during
the freedom struggle result-
ing in framing of an egalitar-
ian Constitution of India, he
advocated Secularism as if
he foresaw events to unfold.
He firmly believed that the
true essence of religion was
the common good, and toler-
ance. Religion should be
above superstitions and ri-
gidities. To fulfil the dream
of making a resurgent India
through the principles of
common good and tolerance,
we should instill the ideals of
Swamiji in today’s youth.”
Today’s tragedy is that the
youth is being brainwashed
into believing that nation-
building is possible only
through intolerance and big-
otry
. Political leaders spread
their narrow interpretations

speech. Make the great Swa-

New Delhi: The Nag-

of indigenously devel-

said on Sunday
.
The Saline Gargle
RT-PCR technology is
simple, fast, cost-effec-

and comfortable. It also
provides instant test
results and is well-suit-
ed for rural and tribal
areas, given minimal

What’s stretching the nerves of young IAS officers?
KARNAL SDM SINHA SENT ON LEAVE, JUDICIAL ENQUIRY ON...
Rakesh Ranjan
New Delhi: The SMs
are full of stories of
how three incidents,
involving three young
IAS officers, dragged
three State govern-
ments, civil adminis-
trations, and civil serv-
ants in general, into
disrepute and weak-
ened their relationship
with the people.
All three incidents
spanned between
April-August 2021 dur-
ing Covid-19 second
wave and Farmers’ agi-
tation and all three IAS
officers were young
(2012, 2013 2017 batch
IAS). On all three occa-
sions, the IAS Associa-
tion was constrained to
come out with its ver-
sion of condemnation.
In the latest case of
acute embarrassment,
the Haryana adminis-
tration has been com-
pelled to send Karnal
SDM Ayush Sinha, a
2017 batch IAS, on leave
till the judicial inquiry
submits its report on
the August 28 Karnal
incident in a month’s
time. In a mass-circu-
lated recording of the
incident, the officer is
allegedly heard telling
policemen to “break
their heads” if the pro-
testingfarmerscrossed
the line. Farmers’ lead-
ers claimed that the
order led to injuring 10
and killing one in the
lathi charge.
As the viral video
brought shame to the
entire IAS community,
Karnal DM Nishant
Kumar Yadav person-
ally apologised to mini-
mise the outrage over
the incident.
Earlier, on May 23
this year when the
country was in the
midst of the second
wave of Covid, Sura-
jpur District Collector
Ranbir Sharma, a 2012
batch Chhattisgarh
cadre IAS officer,
slapped a man,
smashed his phone,
and asked policemen to
beat him. Sharma had
to apologise immedi-
ately after the video
went viral and trig-
gered a mass outrage,
leading to the IAS (Cen-
tral) Association
strongly condemning
the Collector’s deed,
saying it was totally
against the basic tenets
of the service civility
.
A similar case hap-
pened in West Tripura,
where a marriage cer-
emony at a banquet
hall was disrupted and
vandalised by District
Magistrate Dr Shailesh
Kumar Yadav, a 2013
batch IAS officer. He
drew the ire of people
from across the nation
after a video of him

related to companies law and insolvency law while

former Union minister
also voiced strong sup-

posing his entry into the
party were “anti-re-
form”. Moily, who was
among the 23 leaders
who wrote to Gandhi
last year seeking organ-
izational overhaul, op-
posed the institutionali-
sation of the G-23 and
said “some of us put
our signatures only for
reform of the party

build the party, not to
destroy it”. No sooner

srael has been one of
the focal points of the
pandemic in 2021 owing
to its rapid rollout of
COVID-19 vaccines. By late
February, authorities had ad-
ministered at least one dose
to 50% of the population,
with much of Israel’s immu-
nisation programme using
Pfizer vaccines.
Society then in effect reo-
pened across the summer of
2021. However, since then Is-
rael has reported significant
outbreaks, with over 10,000
confirmed new cases being
recorded each day in early
September.
A main part of the problem
has been vaccine coverage.
After its fast start, Israel’s
rollout slowed. There have
not been any clear interrup-
tions to vaccine supply, so
factors such as hesitancy or
access to healthcare may
have been an issue. For exam-
ple, there’s evidence of up-
take being lower among Arab
and ultra-Orthodox Jewish
groups.
The share of the popula-
tion having received one dose
increased from 50% in Febru-
ary to only 68% in September.
Children aged 12-15 have
been included in the rollout
since June 2021, yet despite
this, currently only 62% of
the population have had two
doses.
This has left Israel behind
many other countries in
terms of coverage, including
the UK. Having around 30%
of the Israeli population
completely unvaccinated
means that there’s approxi-
mately 2.7 million people who
are potentially susceptible to
infection and illness.
There are also concerns
that the immunity offered by
the Pfizer vaccines may be
waning over time, although
much of the research on this
is still at an early stage
(meaning it is still awaiting
review by other scientists).
Israel’s hospital data is,
though, showing that vacci-
nated people are susceptible
to infection. Recent reports
suggest that nearly 60% of
hospitalisations are fully
vaccinated.
However, as experts have
suggested, these figures
don’t necessarily mean that
vaccines have lost their ef-
fectiveness. The same sort of
trend has been seen in the
UK, and may simply reflect
the fact that the elderly are
more likely to be vaccinated
while also being more sus-
ceptible to disease – factors
which combine to inflate
COVID-19 cases and deaths
among the vaccinated.
A further factor is the
more transmissible delta
variant, which has now tak-
en hold in Israel. This form
of the virus is driving the
current series of outbreaks,
and its greater ability to
spread may partially explain
the rise in cases too.
EASING TOO
EARLY?
The other big part of the prob-
lem has been Israel ending its
restrictions. Dr Asher Salm-
on, director of the Depart-
ment for International Rela-
tions at Israel’s ministry of
health, suggested in July that
Israel “may have lifted re-
strictions too early”.
It’s the latest in a long line of
examples showing how com-
munity transmission can be
easily sustained when national
policy encourages the mixing
of susceptiblepeoplewithnoor
few restrictions in place. The
tragic consequences of relax-
ing restrictions in India shows
how devastating it can be when
decision-making goes awry
.
The COVID-19 Stringency
Index created by Our World in
Data is a composite measure of
the strictness of the COVID-19
containment policies in each
country around the world. As
of August 28 2021, Israel’s re-
strictions score was 45.4, far
less strict than New Zealand,
where outbreaks continue to
be limited in scope (96.3), but
comparable with the UK (44.0),
which is reporting around
30,000 new cases per day
.
TIME TO HIT
THE BOOSTERS
Countries watched the ini-
tial vaccine rollout in Israel,
gauging the vaccines’ impact
and using this information to
inform their own immunisa-
tion campaigns. Amid con-
cerns about waning immunity
,
there are once again reasons
to observe what happens next
in Israel, as it is now imple-
mentingaboosterprogramme,
giving third doses of vaccines.
In terms of the effectiveness
of boosters, early reports are
encouraging. In those receiv-
ing a booster, the risk of a con-
firmed coronavirus infection
appears to decrease 11-fold rel-
ative to individuals who have
received two doses. However,
the relevant study is still in
preprint, so its findings have
yet to be formally reviewed.
The use of boosters is con-
troversial. There have been
continuous calls for higher-
income countries to share
their vaccine stockpiles with
lower-income ones. This has
not yet happened to any great
extent. As of early September,
only 5.4% of the African con-
tinent has received at least one
dose of any COVID-19 vaccine.
The World Health Organiza-
tion has called for a moratori-
um on booster shots until at
least the end of September, but
it seems unlikely any country
will be altering their policies
accordingly – including Israel.
Israel’s vaccine rollout, over-
all, has arguably been imple-
mented very successfully
. But
the country is also an example
of what can happen when re-
strictionsarerelaxedtooquick-
ly
. What it shows is that all
countries – regardless of their
currentvaccinestatus–needto
maintain longer-term plans for
how to minimise the impact of
COVID-19, during this current
pandemic and beyond when
controlling smaller outbreaks.
It was a leader in the COVID vaccination race – so why are cases

New Delhi: BJP has ap-
pointed its most diligent
and qualified General
Secretary and Union
Minister - Bhupender
Yadav - as the election
in-charge of Manipur.
There is no tough con-
test for the BJP in Ma-
nipur. The Congress,
which won as the single
largest party in the last
election, has been great-
ly weakened by the BJP
.
Ithadwon28seatsinthe
last election and now
has only 16 MLAs left.
Out of these, there is
talk of nine MLAs leav-
ing the party and join-
ing the BJP
. Two region-
al parties are strong in
thestate,oneof whichis
the National People’s
Party and the other is
the Naga People’s
Front and both of
them are with BJP.
Along with the Na-
tional People’s Par-
ty, the BJP is also
involved in the
government in
M e g h a -
laya. So,
m a k -
ing a
big leader like Bhupend-
er Yadav in- charge in
such a small state with
such a favorable atmos-
phere,isamoveperhaps
only the most qualified
BJP leaders can under-
stand.
Bhupendra Yadav has
done ‘Yadav politics’ in
Bihar and Jharkhand
neatly and has emerged
as a major face of OBC.
Leaving the top leaders
of the party
, Bhupender
Yadavisoneof thosefew
leaders, whose identity
and hold, span across
several states.
Therefore, political
observers feel that mak-
ing him in- charge of Ut-
tar Pradesh, Uttara-
khand or Punjab would
have been more appro-
priate. It is worth noting
that he is considered a
manof greattrustbyUn-
ionHomeMinisterAmit
Shah and perhaps the
BJP has some classified
political information or
a special mission in
mind for which it has re-
lied upon its most ‘capa-
ble warrior’ for a com-
paratively smaller, but
extremely crucial state
of Manipur.
A LEADER TO BANK ON
WHAT WILL BE KANHAIYA’S
FATE IN CONGRESS?
Jinendra
New Delhi: CPI leader
Kanhaiya Kumar is
wandering in political
landscapethesedays.He

Lalu Prasad Yadav en-
sured Kanhaiya’s defeat

ty

cial media presence is
also abysmal. He cam-
paigned in West Bengal
assembly polls, but
didn’t get much prefer-
ence. Now it is being
said that he can join the
Congress.Itisalsobeing
said that election strate-
gistPrashantKishorhas
also introduced Kanhai-
ya to Rahul Gandhi and
he wants to get him in-
cluded in the party
.
The question is, what
will Kanhaiya do by
joining the Congress
party? The Congress
party in Bihar is com-
pletely dependent on the
RJD and has to do poli-
tics according to it. In
fact it has ‘experienced’
amyriadof experiences,
but victory by separat-
ing from RJD in hopes
of fighting alone.
The Congress fought
2010 assembly polls
alone, making a hard-
working leader like Anil
Sharma the state presi-
dent. The party got 10 %
votes, but got only 4
seats. So, Congress can-
not decide to fight alone
on the basis of Kanhai-
ya. Being in CPI, he has
influence in a certain
section, which will end
as soon as he joins Con-
gress. Yes, it is possible
that both Prashant

har votes of Congress

then maybe, there will

even then, electoral suc-

WILL KEJRIWAL FULFILL
BHAGWANT MANN’S CM DREAM?
Kejriwal had declared that only a Sikh will be the CM a Dalit will be the Deputy CM in Punjab
Sushil Kumar
New Delhi: Aam Aad-
mi Party’s Bhagwant
Mann, who was elected
Lok Sabha member for
the second time from
Punjab, has increased
the pressure on his par-
ty supremo Arvind Ke-
jriwal. Mann, who
wanted the party to con-
test elections on his face
even last time, wants
Kejriwal to declare him
as the chief ministerial
candidate, however, Ke-
jriwal doesn’t seem im-
pressed. He did induct
Navjot Singh Sidhu,
who at that time was
looking for a way to
leave the BJP and move
to a new party, because
Sidhu wanted Kejriwal
to declare him as the
CM candidate. Kejriwal
also did not make HS
Phoolka, who fought the
case related to the anti-
Sikh riots, as the CM
candidate and cleared
the way for the Khaira
brothers to leave the
party
.
In fact, Kejriwal does
not want the election to
be fought on the face of
any leader. Because if
the party wins, the Pun-
jab CM’s face will be
bigger than that of Ke-
jriwal, who lives in the
frustration that he is
the chief minister of a
semi-state like Delhi.
He is only satisfied that
he is the Supreme Lead-
er of the party and he
has expelled all other
leaders who had all In-
dia stature or were big
leaders, from the party.
That’s why he does not
want to declare anyone
as the CM candidate in
Punjab this time too. He
has declared that only a
Sikh will be the Chief
Minister and a Dalit
will be the Deputy
Chief Minister, howev-
er, he does not want to
name anyone. On the
other hand, Bhagwant
Mann is adamant that
if his name is an-
nounced, he should go
out for publicity. Mann
also showed strength by
meeting party leaders
at his home in the past,
but Kejriwal hasn’t
agreed to the demand,
yet as the party’s pros-
pects are deteriorating
due to the ongoing tus-
sle over the claim for
the post of CM.
BJP’S ‘MAN FRIDAY’ BHUPENDER YADAV TO HANDLE ‘MISSION MANIPUR’!
Bhupender Yadav is one of those few leaders,
whose identity and hold, span across several
states. Apart from his state Rajasthan, he
is also popular in Haryana he has a good
hold in Bihar-Jharkhand also. Thus, political
observers feel that making him in- charge of
UP, Uttarakhand or Punjab would have been
more appropriate. It is worth noting that he
is considered a man of great trust by Home
Minister Amit Shah perhaps BJP has
a special mission in mind for which it
has relied upon him.
On the other hand, Bhagwant Mann is adamant that if
his name is announced, he should go out for publicity.
Mann also showed strength by meeting party leaders at
his home in the past, but Kejriwal hasn’t agreed to the
demand, yet as the party’s prospects are deteriorating
due to the ongoing tussle over the claim for the post of
the Chief Minister.

ing two things at this
time. Their first task
is an attempt to forge
a stronger alliance
than BJP almost
everyone is running
forit.Thesecondtask
is the demand for a
caste-based census,
about which the re-
gional ‘Satraps’ are
vocal. In fact, such is
the situation that Bi-
har CM Nitish Ku-
mar, along with his
arch rival RJD leader
and LoP in Bihar As-
sembly Tejashwi Ya-
dav, reached Delhi to
meet PM Modi.
Both Nitish Kumar
and Tejashwi Yadav
have demanded the
PMtoconductacaste-
based census. RJD
Chief Lalu Prasad
hasannouncedthatif
the castes census is
not coducted this
time, then the census
will be boycotted. Sa-
majwadi Party has
also demanded this.
The question is, why
are the regional par-
ties so concerned
about conducting a
caste-based census
and forming a strong
opposition alliance
against the BJP?
The reason for this
is understood from
the analysis and sur-
vey of electoral data
by CSDS Lokniti.
The bottom line of
this study is that BJP
has made a huge dent
in the OBC vote bank
of regional parties.
This didn’t happen in
2014, the first victory
of BJP under the
command of Naren-
dra Modi. In the 3
elections from 2004 to
2014, the OBC vote
share of regional par-
ties was around 37%.
But in the 2019 LS
polls, 44 % of OBC
voters voted for BJP
and the share of re-
gional parties came
down to 27%.
Think about it, al-
most half of OBC vot-
ers voted for BJP in
LS polls. This figure
has raised the con-
cern of regional par-
ties. However, in as-
sembly polls, more
OBC votes go in fa-
vour of regional par-
ties than BJP
.
SC’s wake-up call prompts Government to fill tribunal vacancies

New Delhi: Chief Jus-
tice of India NV Ra-
mana’s dire warning
has apparently prompt-
ed the Central govern-
ment to fill some of the
long-pending vacan-
cies in various tribu-
nals before the dead-
line of September 13,
2021.
Dealingwithaclutch
of petitions against the
Tribunal Reforms Act
of 2021, a special Su-
preme Court bench of
Justices Ramana, DY
Chandrachud, and L
Nageswara Rao direct-
ed SG Tushar Mehta
when the latter said
that he would convey
the SC’s wish to fill the
vacancies “No, no, Mr.
Mehta… ‘conveying’ is
something else… If
you don’t want an or-
der from us, you pass
the order of appoint-
ments… We expect
some appointments to
be made by Monday
.”
So, within 48 hours
last week, 37 appoint-
ments to three tribu-
nals - AFT, NCLT, ITAT
- were announced in
quick succession.
Accordingly, AFT
has got six judges as
judicial members.
They are Justice Bala
Krishna Narayana;
Justice Shashi Kant
Gupta; Justice Rajiv
Narain Raina; Jus-
tice K Harilal; Jus-
tice Dharam
Chand Chaud-
hary and Jus-
tice Anjana

appointments
would be ef-
fective for
four years,
or till the
members attain the
age of 67 years, which-
ever is ear-
lier.
In the next 24 hours,
after the names of
AFT’s judicial mem-
bers were announced,
the Central govern-
ment announced the
appointment of 18 judi-
cial and technical
members to the Na-
tional Company Law
Tribunal (NCLT) and
13 judicial account
members to the Income
Tax Appellate Tribu-
nals (ITAT).
From the bureau-
cracy, six retired offic-
ers, two from IAS and
four from IRS, were ap-
pointed as Technical
Members in NCLT.
Two retired IAS of-
ficers, who earned the
favour for the job are
former Panchayati Raj
Secretary Rahul Pras-
ad Bhatnagar (1983
batch UP cadre IAS)
and former Consumer
Affairs Secretary Avi-
nash Kumar Srivasta-
va (a 1982 batch UP
cadre IAS). From the
IRS side, five retired of-
ficers Subrata Kumar
Dash, Ajai Das Mehro-
tra, Manoj Kumar
Dubey, Kaushalendra
Kumar Singh and Anu-
radha Sanjay Bhatia
made it to the list.
Even though the gov-
ernment was report-
edly ready with the list
after the due process of
vetting as pointed out
by Justice Chandra-
chud, it took a warning
from the SC to move
into action and fill the
posts.
‘Shiv Sena will contest,
Goa assembly polls’
Mumbai: Shiv Sena
MP Sanjay Raut said
that his party would
‘definitely’ contest the
2022 Goa Assembly
polls in about 20 seats.
He added that the Shiv
Sena was also planning
to field candidates in 80
to 90 seats in the upcom-
ing Uttar Pradesh elec-
tions as they have “the
support of farmers’ or-
ganisations and smaller
parties” in the state.
“In Goa, we are defi-
nitely contesting the
elections. We plan to
contest about 20 seats in
Goa. In Uttar Pradesh,
too, we are planning to
contest 80 to 90 seats.
For Goa, efforts are on
to explore a formula
like the MVA. Let’s see
if we succeed,” Sanjay
Raut said.
About UP, the Rajya
Sabha MP said that
some farmers’ organi-
zations had promised
support to Shiv Sena for
the 2022 Vidhan Sabha
election.
Sanjay Raut’s com-
ments came two days
after Shiv Sena declared
that it would contest
“all the 403 seats” in the
Uttar Pradesh election

the country have a
major reason to
visit the Land of
Maharajas. Many regions
in the state transform from
arid desert to verdant
greens with just a few
showers of rain. The Ga-
radiya Mahadev temple is
one such example. Not
many people are aware of
this picturesque temple
dedicated to Lord Shiva
that barely lies 30 km off
the city of Kota.
It is a tad remote, but if
you are someone who is
yearning for a dose of tran-
quillity, a trip to Garadiya
Mahadev is more than ag-
gregable. The place is actu-
ally inside the Mukundra
Tiger reserve on NH76. At
the park’s entrance, you
have to get your id’s
checked and pay a small
entry fee. The gravel road
that leads to the temple
does not look too promis-
ing. It is rocky, barren land
with nothing but a few
shrubberies sprouting
through the stones. Once
you reach the actual site,
the place may appear oddly
familiar. The beautiful
gorge shaped canyon looks
like a modest version of
the Grand Canyon in the
USA. You might also recall
seeing the place in the
commercials of Rajasthan
tourism. It doesn’t come as
a surprise why this remote,
devoid of tourist place is
the face of the tourism of
the state.
WHAT’S SO SPECIAL?
The place offers a great
vantage point of the river
Chambal and the valley be-
low at an altitude of 500
feet. From this spot, you
can see the river flowing
between the gorge in a
striking hue of teal envel-
oped by clear blue skies.
The river snakes and me-
anders through the valley
and turns to make a horse-
shoe bend for a picture-
perfect view. There are gi-
gantic cliffs that are curl-
ing around the gorge.
These cliffs are meticu-
lously carved by the flow
of the river Chambal, sim-
ilar to the Grand Canyons
that are carved by the Colo-
rado River. To add to the
beauty, the reflection of
trees growing on the cliffs
is mirrored in the water.
During the rainy season,
Garadiya Mahadev looks
even grander with numer-
ous waterfalls cascading
through its gorges.
The river Chambal and
its surroundings have been
infamous. There are many
dark myths associated
with it keeping human set-
tlements away from its
banks. The solitude evokes
a sense of adventure and
thrill. This place is perfect
for nature lovers, writers
or artists who can sit for
hours absorbing the seren-
ity of nature and find in-
spiration. Since it is pretty
secluded, it is advisable to
carry your food.
The scale of Garadiya
Mahadev might be much
smaller than the Grand
Canyons but its beauty and
accessibility make up for
what it lacks in its size.
HOW TO REACH
You need to hire a cab from
Kota to reach Garadiya
Mahadev temple. The tem-
ple is on NH 76 towards
Dabi and Chittorgarh. The
region is under the control
of the Mukundara Hills
Tiger Reserve. Therefore,
in addition to the taxi fare,
visitors need to pay an en-
try fee as well. The entry
ticket costs INR 75 for Indi-
ans and INR 500 for foreign
nationals. Students can
buy the same for INR 20
per person only after show-
ing their college I-card. If
you are taking your car the
fee is INR 200 per vehicle,
INR 400 for bus, and INR 30
for a two-wheeler vehicle.

12. NARCISSISTS
There’s more than one type – and
There’s more than one type – and
research reveals what makes each tick
research reveals what makes each tick
hances are
you’ve met a
n a r c i s s i s t .
Someone who
thinks they’re
better than
everyone else,
dominates the conver-
sation and loves the
limelight. But scientists
are increasingly realis-
ing that not all narcis-
sists are the same –
some are, in fact, ex-
tremely insecure.
In our new paper,
published in Personali-
ty and Social Psycholo-
gy Bulletin, we describe
the distinct types – and
what motivates them.
In classical Greek
mythology, the hunter
Narcissus was the son
of the river god Ce-
phissus and the nymph
Liriope. He was known
for his exceptional
beauty and physique.
One day when Narcis-
sus was walking in the
forest, the beautiful
nymph Echo saw him
and fell in love with
him. However, he reject-
ed her affections, leav-
ing her heartbroken.
As a punishment,
Nemesis, the goddess of
revenge, lured him to a
pool of water where he
encountered his own
reflection for the first
time. Narcissus fell in
love with his reflection,
and, eventually realis-
ing that his love could
not be reciprocated,
pined away to his death.
The myth of Narcis-
sus warns us of the dan-
gers of excessive self-
love, self-absorption
and lack of empathy for
others. It has had a pro-
found influence on
western culture, art
and literature.
Narcissism is also a
popular topic in psy-
chology. The English
physician Havelock El-
lis first identified nar-
cissism as a mental dis-
order in the late 19th
century. Sigmund
Freud considered nar-
cissism to be a normal
part of a child’s devel-
opment, but argued that
it could become a disor-
der if it persisted after
puberty into adulthood.
In modern psycholo-
gy, narcissism is usu-
ally conceptualised as a
personality trait,
which lies on a spec-
trum. Some people are
more narcissistic, oth-
ers less so. Narcissism
typically involves an
inflated view of one-
self, a sense of superi-
ority and entitlement
and a lack of concern
for others. The above
portrait of a narcissist
is a familiar one. But it
isn’t the only one.
I
n our research,
we investigated
two types of pre-
viously identi-
fied narcissism: gran-
diose and vulnerable.
Grandiose narcissists
are arrogant, domi-
nant and extroverted.
They tend to have high
self-esteem, be bold
and assertive and feel
happy and confident
about their lives.
Vulnerable narcis-
sists, on the other
hand, are withdrawn,
neurotic and insecure.
They tend to have low
self-esteem, be hyper-
sensitive and feel anx-
ious and depressed.
However, these two
types of narcissists
also have something in
common. Both are self-
ish, feel entitled to spe-
cial treatment and
privileges and re-
late to others
in antago-
n i s -
tic ways.
You might be able to
recognise the two
types of narcissists by
how they behave in so-
cial situations. Gran-
diose narcissists are
socially competent.
They are likely to be
dominant and charm-
ing. Vulnerable narcis-
sists, on the other
hand, are less socially
skilled. They are likely
to be shy and anxious
in social situations.
What’s more, while
grandiose narcissists
are forthright and as-
sertive in pursuing
their goals, seeking to
maximise success, vul-
nerable narcissists are
timid and defensive,
seeking to minimise
failure.
In our research, we
examined the social
motives and percep-
tions of both grandi-
ose and vulner-
a b l e
narcissists. In particu-
lar, we investigated
their desires to attain
social status and social
inclusion. We also
looked at whether they
felt they had been suc-
cessful in attaining so-
cial status and social
inclusion.
Social status refers
to being respected and
admired by others. It
involves standing out
and being seen as an
important person in
the social hierarchy
. In
contrast, social inclu-
sion refers to being
liked and accepted by
others. It involves fit-
ting in well with others
as part of the social
community
.
Any given person
may have or desire
both status and inclu-
sion, only one of the
two, or neither. For ex-
ample, in the TV show
The Simpsons, the
character of Mr Burns
has high status but is
not particularly liked
and accepted, whereas
the character of Hom-
er Simpson is well
liked and accepted but
does not have high sta-
tus.
We conducted two
studies, recruiting 676
adults based in the
United States. We as-
sessed their levels of
both grandiose and
vulnerable narcis-
sism. We
also assessed the ex-
tent to which they de-
sired status and inclu-
sion as well as the ex-
tent to which they felt
they had attained their
goals.
We found that both
grandiose and vulner-
able narcissists strong-
ly desired social sta-
tus. Interestingly,
whereas grandiose
narcissists felt they
were successful in at-
taining this status,
vulnerable narcis-
sists felt they did
not get the status they
deserved.
What’s more, gran-
diose narcissists did
not feel they had at-
tained social inclusion
but did not particular-
ly desire it either. In
contrast, vulnerable
narcissists also did not
feel they had attained
social inclusion but
strongly desired it.
Grandiose narcissists
therefore felt they had
met their social goals,
but vulnerable narcis-
sists did not.
Both types of nar-
cissists crave the re-
spect and admiration
of others. But while
grandiose narcissists
may be stars on the in-
terpersonal stage, tri-
umphantly capturing
the spotlight, their
vulnerable counter-
part may be a bit play-
er lurking on the side-
lines, resentfully seek-
ing, but failing to ob-
tain, the applause
they crave.
