2. The reason I have chosen Christopher Nolan is due to the fact I simply don’t watch many thrillers
and the only ones I have really watched would be his. Chris also is quite similar to the influential
figures of the group so I decided to pick him. I believe this as they all are famous thriller/action
directors and fill of the same criteria’s.
I enjoy Christopher’s films due to the fact he includes a lot of action and creates good hybrid genres
by combing intriguing elements from different aspects in genres like crime, drama, action in Batman
etc.
He inspires me because I admire the type of work he create and the task which he’s had to undergo
in creating some of my favourite films as I love the batman film franchise and the dark knight trilogy
I believe was executed perfectly. In the thriller context and why I picked him for that was down to
the fact that like I said before he was a familiar face and the fact that I really enjoy like his work, plus
I would like to
Why Christopher Nolan???
3. Who is Christopher Nolan???
Best known for his cerebral, often nonlinear story-telling, acclaimed writer-director Christopher
Nolan was born on July 30, 1970 in London, England. Over the course of 15 years of film-making,
Nolan has gone from low-budget independent films to working on some of the biggest blockbusters
ever made.
Christopher Nolan is best known for the dark knight trilogy, inception, Interstellar etc. He has also
produced many other films such as Man of steel which personally I believe to be a very good film.
Chris is an exceptional film director nominated for 39 awards and is credited for great films to which
he produces.
4. Quick Biography
Born on July 30, 1970 in London, England Christopher Nolan received attention for his early films,
Following (1998) and Memento (2000). After directing Insomnia, Nolan's next film was Batman
Begins. The film's sequel, The Dark Knight, broke box office records, and Nolan's heady sci-fi thriller,
Inception, became another blockbuster two years later. In 2012 he produced the third film of his
Batman saga, The Dark Knight Rises.
Christopher Nolan started creating films as a child, making his first short at the age of 7. Nolan
traveled between Chicago and London while growing up, his mother was from America and his
father was from Britain and eventually went on to attend University College London, where he
studied English literature and joined the school's film society. He created shorts like Tarantula,
Larceny and Doodlebug before releasing longer-form work.
Nolan continued presenting psychological thrillers with the remake Insomnia. The director's career
then agreed to re-launch Batman with the 2005 film Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale the dark
knight. The movie went on to earn more than $372 million worldwide. Nolan next released 2006's
The Prestige, starring Bale, Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson.
5. Style
Christopher Nolan's style:
•Non-linear temporal order
•Thrusts the viewer straight into the action
•Uses flashbacks to develop the character
•Sets up multiple storylines in the opening scene
7. The Colour scheme they use is defiantly similar. This is a result of the colour/shading that he uses
which is vey dark, heavy, muddy colours. These therefore set the imagery to be dark itself (referring to
Mise en scene) and gives the impression of a solemn, depressing setting.
This isn’t always the case as sometimes he can contrast the colour and mood of the scene but for this
instance and for the sake of most of the pictures I have picked on the previous slide, they show
sinister turning points in the film. An example could be the picture in the bottom left of the last slide
of Batman (Bruce Wayne) who’s been crippled by a super villain named Bane and is left in a barbaric
prison or more like a massive whole in the ground where people are left to die. The prison is used to
imprison Batman as he watches Gotham burn. This is obviously a negative, dark scene and therefore
incorporates dark colours for a dark setting.

9. Doodle bug
This is film is perfect for our project due to the fact that it is a short
film, physiologic thriller plus is made by one of our inspirational figures.
However our final product was going to be tuned down of physiologic
happening whereas this short film is about an man trying to kill an
insect which is later to be revealed as himself and then after he
squashes it the previous event foreshadows his fate and he himself is
squashed by a giant size him.
Although I have never seen this film it would be intriguing to watch and
possible incorporate it into our work as of the similarities that it
contains which links in with what we are going to do for our two
minute film.
