Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
For our media product, after watching many different thriller genre films we
decided to follow most of the conventions to make our film just as successful as the
other films. We follows things such as some shots to keep basic elements of a horror
movie and using other movies is how to shoot horror film, allow people to watch
after more terrifying atmosphere. And we according watching other films got some
footage tips. However we decided to develop film of media products by in the
evening the boy had been lying on the bed and he fell asleep made a very long
dream. Then it tells the story of this dream. A boy like read a book under a tree,
then a series of terrorist happened, until he woke up from a dream. Then when he
got up he found that’s not only a dream. Everything is real.
By doing this we hoped to get a message across to our target audience. After seeing
other thriller film, we also challenged a lot of new content of this movie and shots,
Inside portray a lot of expression, action and voice, such as the character’s facial
expression,
• fear of fear action, and saw the ghost of terror screams. All are in
order to render the film’s atmosphere of terror. After shooting
hopefully we can try to do better, seize the audience’s eyes.
• For this film sound, we used some horrible sound, then we were
recording together, in second part of this film, we recording voice
of pant and for this film the last part we recording a sentence
‘that’s not only a dream’ .We shot this movie before, we watched
a lot of thriller movie, with a lot of skill. Next time we can shot
better to let the audience feel horror, improve how to shot and
any about film.
Question 2
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
For our film, it is not very fearsome, so except people who is under 12 and elder
people, others are all can watch this film. There are many people would like to watch
horror film, especially teenagers, because most of them want to try something
exciting, and when they are watching horror films they will absolutely feel excited,
that is why they want to watch horror film.Another is adult, especially males,
because they are not afraid of it.
For the clothing style, the actress wearied a white dress, because there is a ghost in a
Japanese thriller wearied a white dress, and we think is very fearful, so we borrowed
a white dress from performance teacher. And the ghost in the Japanese thriller also
had very long hire in front of her face, so we also borrowed a fake hair from
performance teacher. And the actor wearied normal clothes, just like a student.
There are no dialogues in our film, because there are only two people in our film,
ghost and a boy.
•
• We shot at two places, first is behind our college, there is a forest in the
park, it is a good place to shoot horror film, quiet and a little bit
gruesome, especially at cloudy day, and we put some sound effects in
the film, it would ghastlier in forest when you watch the film. Second is
a host family of my friend, we shot in his room, because he is the
photographer of our film and his home is near to the park.
•
• The way of represent things of us is let everything happens in a dream.
When the boy wakes up, audience might think this is only a dream, it is
not going to happen in real life, but things happened after he wakes up
can change their thoughts, the blood appear on a piece of paper, is
same as the dream, so people probably know what happened next.
• Question 3
• What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and
why?
• Just like now, after their a-whole-day work or boring homework, people like to
do or watch something exciting, and watch thriller and horror films is a good way
to enjoy their life.Thriller and horror films are not like affectional films, romantic
and happiness, watch thrillers is another way to relief stress.
•
• There are some big film companies which distributed many thriller and horror
films. First is Lions Gate Films, this company has distributed many thriller and
horror films, two of the master works are series of Saw and Hostel, they are very
famous in the world, this company is willing to distribute thriller and horror film.
The second company also has any thrillers, Universal. I think most of people have
watched Jaws, it is a very famous and successful thriller film which is distributed
by Universal. And series ofThe Mummy, although it is not as famous as Jaws, but
it is also pretty successful for thriller.
• Then, two very famous and successful film companies in the
world, 20th Century Fox andWarner Bros Pictures, they also
distribute some thriller and horror films. There is another series
which is distributed by Screen Gems called Resident Evil, there is
a Chinese lady in Resident Evil Retribution, so it will attract many
audiences of Asia especially China.
• For our horror film, I want to choose Lions Gate Films, I have two
main reasons. First, this company has distributed many thriller
and horror films, people all know this, and those horror and
thriller films are pretty successful. Second, it’s not a very big
company, if we let this company distribute our film, we don’t
need too much money, the funds must be cheaper than choose
20th Century Fox andWarner Bros Pictures.
• Question 4
• Who would be the audience for your media product?
• I think most audiences of our media product are teenagers and adults, many
people feel scared when they are watching a thriller, that is what they want, if the
thrillers are not scared, they would not watch them.
•
• I think most people who want to watch film like ours might be between 14 and 30,
especially those people who is in middle school, college and university.
•
• In my audience research, most of teenagers that I have asked are enjoy watching
thrillers, somebody even doesn’t afraid of thrillers, they think watch thriller is a
very interesting thing, and they are also don’t afraid watch thrillers by
themselves, that is the most unbelievable thing for me. And for mid-aged people,
some of them don’t afraid of watch thrillers, but they don’t like to watch them.
Certainly, there are also some people afraid of watch them.At last, most of elder
people don’t like watching thrillers, they are not interested in them.
• Question 5
• How did you attract/address your audience?
• First of all, the audience may be attracted to our film because its something
happen in everyday life, murders are commonly on the news. And our actors are
all teenagers, and most of audience of this film would be teenagers, the age is
same, so they will probably want to watch this film, it is more attractive for
them. Our film is a little bit like a very famous thriller from Japanese, the
modeling of the actress is same as ours, that is another point that people would
like to watch our film. In addition to this, our film is not so horrific, people who
over 40 years old can also watch it. Nowadays, many people think watch thriller
films is a kind of way to relief stress, when they feel unhappy or something let
them depressed, they would choose this way to relax. To the contrary,
somebody wants watch thriller films because they are pretty happy, when they
watch thriller films they would feel nervous and they can shout happily,
especially with their best friends and boy/girlfriend.
• Question 6
• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing
this product?
At the beginning of the movie, use the long shot for terror environment. After
that I use the effect of moving the lens back and forth technology, in order to
better watch horror surrounding environment, but I didn’t have anything with
wheels. In this movie, I use lots of camera shot type, at the beginning, reflects
the lens slowly closer to the protagonist, I use close up shots. And then I use the
overlooking the technology, shoot people down from above. The feature
characters and paper. I use the medium shot taking people reading under the
tree, use features describe the character again see blood fear of expression.
When the blood dripping onto the paper, I use the high angle shot. In the
second part, when the character saw the ghost, he was starting running, and
for this part I use camera bracket, the camera bracket was lying on the ground,
I use the low angle, then while with the character. When I shoot about running I
use the hand held, the camera followed character, this part I didn’t use camera
bracket.
• And then I took a close up the ghost, I use the extreme close up,
conversion angle and lens. The close up ghost hand. Finally wrote
character fall scenes, the camera lens the ghost hand, I use extreme close
up, and use medium shot character fall in floor. After wake up from dream,
I use medium shot, character woke up from dream scene.Taking
character afraid of the face, the most main is the throat choking. This is
extreme close up. At the back of the film, I use lots of medium shot. The
last feature part of the door is open, shoot from the outside to the inside,
when the camera into the room, gradually reduce the distance with
character. After that, over the shoulder shot, from the side of the shoulder
to the paper on the desk, the angle of the reference profile shot, close the
distance. For these technology, when I was in the classroom, sometimes I
will ask teacher and then I will remember it. Second I can ask someone
people like techniques for photography or study about this. I used Canon
eos6d Camera lens sigma 12-24.
• Question 7
• Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you might have learnt in
the progression from it to the full product?
From the preliminary task to the main coursework we have learnt many things.
Firstly we learnt about varied camera shots and edits. We learnt that these can help
us to keep the movie looking as thriller and let people feel the atmosphere is very
afraid, and to help show representation of the characters and any about thriller films
on scene. For example the significance of establishing shots really make it easier to
help the audience understand what time of day it is like in our establishing shot is a
panning of some trees and there it some thriller scene. Such as changes in the
environment and the mobile, sound changed, like some trees sound , horror
character voice and so there are a lot.We think this will make the audience feel the
process of watching a movie, can truly feel the canter and the contents of the film,
can really feel the horror and the terrible truth. We will learnt more things from other
films or from teacher, and shoot more and more good voice.
• Another thing that we learnt is that everyone with the group needs
to take part in the filming and editing stages of the film so there we
can imagine a more script, imagine feeling more pictures, eve more
detailed content of the film.
Overall from the preliminary task we learnt a lot from all aspects,
from the beginning of the mission to the final evaluation, after so
mush, so our first movie and think about film content. Analysis of
the film in front of a lot of writing, more in-depth understanding of
the movie and learnt more in-depth of how to writing about
analysis. Learnt how to make a movie, sound, action, character,
atmosphere , shoot, and how to use camera, we are learnt a lot of
things from preliminary task until now.We will learnt many from
different ways, we believe we can also shoot more good movies.

For our media product, after watching many different thriller genre films we decided to follow most of the conventions to make our film just as successful as the other films. We follows things such as some shots to keep basic elements of a horror movie and using other movies is how to shoot horror film, allow people to watch after more terrifying atmosphere. And we according watching other films got some footage tips. However we decided to develop film of media products by in the evening the boy had been lying on the bed and he fell asleep made a very long dream. Then it tells the story of this dream. A boy like read a book under a tree, then a series of terrorist happened, until he woke up from a dream. Then when he got up he found that’s not only a dream. Everything is real. By doing this we hoped to get a message across to our target audience. After seeing other thriller film, we also challenged a lot of new content of this movie and shots, Inside portray a lot of expression, action and voice, such as the character’s facial expression,
  • 2. • fear of fear action, and saw the ghost of terror screams. All are in order to render the film’s atmosphere of terror. After shooting hopefully we can try to do better, seize the audience’s eyes. • For this film sound, we used some horrible sound, then we were recording together, in second part of this film, we recording voice of pant and for this film the last part we recording a sentence ‘that’s not only a dream’ .We shot this movie before, we watched a lot of thriller movie, with a lot of skill. Next time we can shot better to let the audience feel horror, improve how to shot and any about film.
  • 3. Question 2 How does your media product represent particular social groups? For our film, it is not very fearsome, so except people who is under 12 and elder people, others are all can watch this film. There are many people would like to watch horror film, especially teenagers, because most of them want to try something exciting, and when they are watching horror films they will absolutely feel excited, that is why they want to watch horror film.Another is adult, especially males, because they are not afraid of it. For the clothing style, the actress wearied a white dress, because there is a ghost in a Japanese thriller wearied a white dress, and we think is very fearful, so we borrowed a white dress from performance teacher. And the ghost in the Japanese thriller also had very long hire in front of her face, so we also borrowed a fake hair from performance teacher. And the actor wearied normal clothes, just like a student. There are no dialogues in our film, because there are only two people in our film, ghost and a boy. •
  • 4. • We shot at two places, first is behind our college, there is a forest in the park, it is a good place to shoot horror film, quiet and a little bit gruesome, especially at cloudy day, and we put some sound effects in the film, it would ghastlier in forest when you watch the film. Second is a host family of my friend, we shot in his room, because he is the photographer of our film and his home is near to the park. • • The way of represent things of us is let everything happens in a dream. When the boy wakes up, audience might think this is only a dream, it is not going to happen in real life, but things happened after he wakes up can change their thoughts, the blood appear on a piece of paper, is same as the dream, so people probably know what happened next.
  • 5. • Question 3 • What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why? • Just like now, after their a-whole-day work or boring homework, people like to do or watch something exciting, and watch thriller and horror films is a good way to enjoy their life.Thriller and horror films are not like affectional films, romantic and happiness, watch thrillers is another way to relief stress. • • There are some big film companies which distributed many thriller and horror films. First is Lions Gate Films, this company has distributed many thriller and horror films, two of the master works are series of Saw and Hostel, they are very famous in the world, this company is willing to distribute thriller and horror film. The second company also has any thrillers, Universal. I think most of people have watched Jaws, it is a very famous and successful thriller film which is distributed by Universal. And series ofThe Mummy, although it is not as famous as Jaws, but it is also pretty successful for thriller.
  • 6. • Then, two very famous and successful film companies in the world, 20th Century Fox andWarner Bros Pictures, they also distribute some thriller and horror films. There is another series which is distributed by Screen Gems called Resident Evil, there is a Chinese lady in Resident Evil Retribution, so it will attract many audiences of Asia especially China. • For our horror film, I want to choose Lions Gate Films, I have two main reasons. First, this company has distributed many thriller and horror films, people all know this, and those horror and thriller films are pretty successful. Second, it’s not a very big company, if we let this company distribute our film, we don’t need too much money, the funds must be cheaper than choose 20th Century Fox andWarner Bros Pictures.
  • 7. • Question 4 • Who would be the audience for your media product? • I think most audiences of our media product are teenagers and adults, many people feel scared when they are watching a thriller, that is what they want, if the thrillers are not scared, they would not watch them. • • I think most people who want to watch film like ours might be between 14 and 30, especially those people who is in middle school, college and university. • • In my audience research, most of teenagers that I have asked are enjoy watching thrillers, somebody even doesn’t afraid of thrillers, they think watch thriller is a very interesting thing, and they are also don’t afraid watch thrillers by themselves, that is the most unbelievable thing for me. And for mid-aged people, some of them don’t afraid of watch thrillers, but they don’t like to watch them. Certainly, there are also some people afraid of watch them.At last, most of elder people don’t like watching thrillers, they are not interested in them.
  • 8. • Question 5 • How did you attract/address your audience? • First of all, the audience may be attracted to our film because its something happen in everyday life, murders are commonly on the news. And our actors are all teenagers, and most of audience of this film would be teenagers, the age is same, so they will probably want to watch this film, it is more attractive for them. Our film is a little bit like a very famous thriller from Japanese, the modeling of the actress is same as ours, that is another point that people would like to watch our film. In addition to this, our film is not so horrific, people who over 40 years old can also watch it. Nowadays, many people think watch thriller films is a kind of way to relief stress, when they feel unhappy or something let them depressed, they would choose this way to relax. To the contrary, somebody wants watch thriller films because they are pretty happy, when they watch thriller films they would feel nervous and they can shout happily, especially with their best friends and boy/girlfriend.
  • 9. • Question 6 • What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? At the beginning of the movie, use the long shot for terror environment. After that I use the effect of moving the lens back and forth technology, in order to better watch horror surrounding environment, but I didn’t have anything with wheels. In this movie, I use lots of camera shot type, at the beginning, reflects the lens slowly closer to the protagonist, I use close up shots. And then I use the overlooking the technology, shoot people down from above. The feature characters and paper. I use the medium shot taking people reading under the tree, use features describe the character again see blood fear of expression. When the blood dripping onto the paper, I use the high angle shot. In the second part, when the character saw the ghost, he was starting running, and for this part I use camera bracket, the camera bracket was lying on the ground, I use the low angle, then while with the character. When I shoot about running I use the hand held, the camera followed character, this part I didn’t use camera bracket.
  • 10. • And then I took a close up the ghost, I use the extreme close up, conversion angle and lens. The close up ghost hand. Finally wrote character fall scenes, the camera lens the ghost hand, I use extreme close up, and use medium shot character fall in floor. After wake up from dream, I use medium shot, character woke up from dream scene.Taking character afraid of the face, the most main is the throat choking. This is extreme close up. At the back of the film, I use lots of medium shot. The last feature part of the door is open, shoot from the outside to the inside, when the camera into the room, gradually reduce the distance with character. After that, over the shoulder shot, from the side of the shoulder to the paper on the desk, the angle of the reference profile shot, close the distance. For these technology, when I was in the classroom, sometimes I will ask teacher and then I will remember it. Second I can ask someone people like techniques for photography or study about this. I used Canon eos6d Camera lens sigma 12-24.
  • 11. • Question 7 • Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you might have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? From the preliminary task to the main coursework we have learnt many things. Firstly we learnt about varied camera shots and edits. We learnt that these can help us to keep the movie looking as thriller and let people feel the atmosphere is very afraid, and to help show representation of the characters and any about thriller films on scene. For example the significance of establishing shots really make it easier to help the audience understand what time of day it is like in our establishing shot is a panning of some trees and there it some thriller scene. Such as changes in the environment and the mobile, sound changed, like some trees sound , horror character voice and so there are a lot.We think this will make the audience feel the process of watching a movie, can truly feel the canter and the contents of the film, can really feel the horror and the terrible truth. We will learnt more things from other films or from teacher, and shoot more and more good voice.
  • 12. • Another thing that we learnt is that everyone with the group needs to take part in the filming and editing stages of the film so there we can imagine a more script, imagine feeling more pictures, eve more detailed content of the film. Overall from the preliminary task we learnt a lot from all aspects, from the beginning of the mission to the final evaluation, after so mush, so our first movie and think about film content. Analysis of the film in front of a lot of writing, more in-depth understanding of the movie and learnt more in-depth of how to writing about analysis. Learnt how to make a movie, sound, action, character, atmosphere , shoot, and how to use camera, we are learnt a lot of things from preliminary task until now.We will learnt many from different ways, we believe we can also shoot more good movies.
