As part of the FARO 3D laser scanner Product Management Team, Oliver Bürkler is focusing on the development of FARO´s 3D documentation software as well as managing the relationships with FAROs 3rd party development partners. Previously, he served as the Business Development and Sales Manager for iQvolution in Germany. He holds a Masters in Precision Engineering as well in Business Administration and Engineering at the University of Applied Science, Munich, Germany. Oliver will discuss the latest news and updates to FARO’s 3D Documentation product portfolio and provide insights into the vision and concepts behind them. These new offerings will allow users to continue to increase the efficiency of their projects.

“Registration was uneventful, requiring adjustment only at the stairwells where overlap was minimal, and room geometry a bit more complicated. Out of 130 scans, ~9 scan positions failed to register properly on the first pass. Considering that target spheres and paper targets were not used at all, the little extra time needed for registration adjustment was acceptable. Based upon my cumulative experience with targetless registration, I expect to employ c2c registration about 80% of the time.”

In this keynote presentation, Matthew will review the workflow process DeWalt used to capture an entire 200,000 sq.ft building in just 2 days with the use of a FARO Focus3D Laser Scanner, register the entire project without the use of any scan targets using SCENE, and upload the data using a new web-based application known as Web Share Cloud. This workflow solved many of the complications in the beginning stages of this project, and will continue to help the project through its lifecycle over the next couple years.

This technical session will demonstrate how you can utilize 3D data collected from longer range laser scanners, to produce models of objects, architecture, and even landscapes. Using examples from archaeological projects around the world and from their museum exhibit featuring 3D printing and 3D laser scanning, University of South Florida scientists will demonstrate workflows they are using for World Heritage preservation projects, and show how they are using these 3D data and objects to enhance and improve education and interaction. Visual Statement’s EdgeFX software has many built in functionalities to assist users with both crash and crime scene investigations. This workshop will focus on importing 3D Laser Scan data of an accident scene, including scans of the involved vehicles, into EdgeFX and using several of the built in tools to assist with a reconstruction of the scene. Built in tools such as a Crush Analysis feature, Linear Momentum Tool and Acceleration Data Manager can all assist in determining what may have happened based on the physical evidence captured of the accident scene.
