3. • to know about the fertility of the soils (SOC could be used to monitor soil health);
• to report to the different conventions and SDGs (e.g. SDG 15.3.1 on soil degradation);
• to make decisions on climate change;
• this will help to develop national information systems.
This activity ultimately benefits countries by building their capacity on soil assessment and
monitoring, and developing policies on soil, which would rely on the use of reliable and
updated soil information in line with international standards.

If any letter from FAO is required, please indicate who we should address the letter to.
NOTE: The IP policy is under development so that you can comment to it and

5 December (World Soil Day) 2017: launch of the global SOC map

8. What if you fail to submit your national map?
• Your country will be left blank in the global map
• Notification to be send to your national authorities
