Rationale:
Throughout the year I have acquired many different skills and knowledge from previous projects. It
started off with an advertising project. Throughout this I learnt the basics of everything that I need
to use now, mainly Photoshop and Adobe Premier. After I learnt the basics, I went on to complete
different projects in print, audio, music video, and video games. Throughout these projects I learnt
about even these in even more detail, discovering how to do more complex cuts and effects on
Premier, and making more complex Photoshop creations. I can now use those skills to create a
trailer from making character movements on Photoshop, and putting them together on Premier,
which will come together to be my film trailer.
My previous production in video games actually could help a lot for this project. It contained a lot of
character creation on Photoshop. Although it was in the form of a 16-bit game, designing different
items helped, and I have a good degree of skill in creating good looking visuals on Photoshop.
Project Concept:
My project is a film trailer for an animated kids film that will be in a style that makes it look like it
was drawn. It will be a silent film with music that tells the story as well as the visuals. I will also
compose the music to make it work with the film, and so I can control where tempo changes and
music changes should be. The film is about a girl and the journey she takes to find the Drawn City,
a place she has only heard about in stories. She knows that it’s a long shot and the place might
not even exist, but she doesn’t know what else to do, there’s nowhere else to go. To go along with
my film, I will create a movie poster, which will be in the same style as the film.
I will also need to do a lot of research for my project. A starting point is to do research on other
animated films of a similar style. For example, Persepolis is a drawn film. This would be a good
film to research as it was made in the same way I want to make mine. I will also find other
animated films that were made in a similar way to how I want to make mine. I will also have to do a
lot of research into film music. Music is a big way of getting emotion out of people so it’s important
to do it right. For example, if a happy song were played during a sad scene, then the scene
wouldn’t seem so sad. To find out the music styles during different emotional scenes, I will do
research on different films, such as Up, or Paperman.
Audience Classification:
My character will be female and there isn’t really any violence, it is more just a story of an
adventure. Because of this I think my film will be more tailored towards females. It is also an
animated film, which usually is suited to younger viewers. There’s no bad language or violence
either, making my film suited to children, ages between 4-10. This is the age where kids tend to
enjoy animated films and wouldn’t be bothered by a lack of violence. I also think there is a
particular social class that my film attracts. I think it would be most suited to social class C1, lower
middle class. This is because it is a safe film for the whole family, and this social class is one that

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Initial Ideas and Proposal  Write the pre-proposal – what I want to do and
occupies a large percentage of the population. My film doesn’t have a specific geodemographic.
As there are no words in the film, just music, it is suitable for anyone. However there are some
words in the trailer, for example, the title. Because of this I would say that it’s more suited to
English speaking countries such as the USA and England. To narrow it down even more, I think it
would be most popular in England; this is because of people of a specific psychographic. This
psychographic is belongers. These people are brand loyal and are more attracted to products
where they’re from, in this case The UK. Because I am making it, they might be more attracted to
this product. Due to me making a film, people will also watch it for entertainment. It can be used as
an escape from real world problems, or just be watched for enjoyment.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
There’s a couple of ways to evaluate my work that I will be doing. Throughout the production of my
project I will be making a weekly development diary, which will follow my work over the four weeks
in the form of a production reflection. There I will be able to talk about what improvements I could
make to each area and what I thought I did well. At the end of the project I will also make an
evaluation. This will talk about everything in my FMP, from how good I thought my research went,
to how I managed my time throughout the project.

my aims for the project
 Skills audit – talk about my strengths and
weaknesses going into this project.
 Mood board – add colour schemes, patterns, and
existing products similar to mine then analyse it.
Talk about similarities, differences and what I will
do to incorporate a certain item.
 Key influences – add at least three different
people or products that have influenced my
project. How have they? Why?
 Add any extras that could be useful. Mind maps
of ideas, more mood boards, etc.
 Proposal – Give a brief explanation of my project
concept as well as how my skills that I’ve learnt
on previous projects help. Also talk about how my
project will be reviewed and the audience my
trailer will appeal to.
2 Research  Start by analysing existing products that are
similar to mine – if it’s a film, pick a scene and
analyse areas such as the mise-en-scene or
location. If it’s a still poster, analyse use of colour
or fonts.
 Secondary audience research – For existing
products, find out what the audience thought. For
example, look at the reviews for a film that was
researched in existing products.
 Primary audience research – create a
questionnaire or interview people as to what they
think of existing products and what they think of
my idea.

3 Research  Finish Primary audience research if I haven’t
already
 Subject research – get some background
information on the subject and note down any
additional comments they have made during
audience research.
 Practical Research – experiment with styles
similar to mine. For example, try a different type
of stop motion.
 Finish bibliography of everything you’ve
researched
4 Pre-production & Planning  Start with a reflection of what I’m doing, why, and
for whom.
 A lot of pre-production is shorter slides about a
lot of things. For example, I will make lots of
slides on areas such as risk assessments,
budget, contingency planning, location and
resources.
 I will finish on a production schedule. This will
follow the next four weeks and give me an idea
on how much time I should be spending in one
area.
5 Production  Week one will all be spent in front of a PC. I will
create the characters and the different walking
cycles that go with them. A lot of time will be
spent on this as there will be a lot of different
movements

6 Production  Week two of production will be finishing up the
movements of the characters, then working on
the backgrounds. For example, the trees and
buildings. If this is done earlier in the week, then I
will also be able to start creating my trailer.
7 Production  The third week of production will be split into two
halves. The start will be finishing taking all the
photos to complete my trailer, and the second will
be dedicated to the editing of it. Putting all the
photos together on Premier to create a moving
image. Once the image is made, I will be able to
make the score for the music.
8 Production  The last week of production will be dedicated to
finishing up my trailer and completing side
projects. Once the trailer is done, I will make the
poster for the movie on Photoshop. If I have
finished this and it looks good, I will make more
products, such as an album.
9 Evaluation  The evaluation is about the strengths and
weaknesses of different areas throughout my
project, and what I could do next time to improve
me. In this I will talk about different areas such as
my time management, and technical qualities of
my project, both the main and side projects.
 I will finish off with peer feedback. This is where I
will show people my finished product and ask
them what they liked about it and what they
disliked. From this I will make a summery and
talk about if I agree or disagree with them, and
then I know how to improve it if I complete a
similar task in the future.

Fmp: Proposal

Proposal 1 Centre Name and Number: York College 48357 Student Name and Number: Ewan Wild 348136 Project proposal title and date: Journey to the Drawn City 29th March 2019 Main area of activity: Film Rationale: Throughout the year I have acquired many different skills and knowledge from previous projects. It started off with an advertising project. Throughout this I learnt the basics of everything that I need to use now, mainly Photoshop and Adobe Premier. After I learnt the basics, I went on to complete different projects in print, audio, music video, and video games. Throughout these projects I learnt about even these in even more detail, discovering how to do more complex cuts and effects on Premier, and making more complex Photoshop creations. I can now use those skills to create a trailer from making character movements on Photoshop, and putting them together on Premier, which will come together to be my film trailer. My previous production in video games actually could help a lot for this project. It contained a lot of character creation on Photoshop. Although it was in the form of a 16-bit game, designing different items helped, and I have a good degree of skill in creating good looking visuals on Photoshop. Project Concept: My project is a film trailer for an animated kids film that will be in a style that makes it look like it was drawn. It will be a silent film with music that tells the story as well as the visuals. I will also compose the music to make it work with the film, and so I can control where tempo changes and music changes should be. The film is about a girl and the journey she takes to find the Drawn City, a place she has only heard about in stories. She knows that it’s a long shot and the place might not even exist, but she doesn’t know what else to do, there’s nowhere else to go. To go along with my film, I will create a movie poster, which will be in the same style as the film. I will also need to do a lot of research for my project. A starting point is to do research on other animated films of a similar style. For example, Persepolis is a drawn film. This would be a good film to research as it was made in the same way I want to make mine. I will also find other animated films that were made in a similar way to how I want to make mine. I will also have to do a lot of research into film music. Music is a big way of getting emotion out of people so it’s important to do it right. For example, if a happy song were played during a sad scene, then the scene wouldn’t seem so sad. To find out the music styles during different emotional scenes, I will do research on different films, such as Up, or Paperman. Audience Classification: My character will be female and there isn’t really any violence, it is more just a story of an adventure. Because of this I think my film will be more tailored towards females. It is also an animated film, which usually is suited to younger viewers. There’s no bad language or violence either, making my film suited to children, ages between 4-10. This is the age where kids tend to enjoy animated films and wouldn’t be bothered by a lack of violence. I also think there is a particular social class that my film attracts. I think it would be most suited to social class C1, lower middle class. This is because it is a safe film for the whole family, and this social class is one that

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks 1 Initial Ideas and Proposal  Write the pre-proposal – what I want to do and occupies a large percentage of the population. My film doesn’t have a specific geodemographic. As there are no words in the film, just music, it is suitable for anyone. However there are some words in the trailer, for example, the title. Because of this I would say that it’s more suited to English speaking countries such as the USA and England. To narrow it down even more, I think it would be most popular in England; this is because of people of a specific psychographic. This psychographic is belongers. These people are brand loyal and are more attracted to products where they’re from, in this case The UK. Because I am making it, they might be more attracted to this product. Due to me making a film, people will also watch it for entertainment. It can be used as an escape from real world problems, or just be watched for enjoyment. How will the project be evaluated and reviewed: There’s a couple of ways to evaluate my work that I will be doing. Throughout the production of my project I will be making a weekly development diary, which will follow my work over the four weeks in the form of a production reflection. There I will be able to talk about what improvements I could make to each area and what I thought I did well. At the end of the project I will also make an evaluation. This will talk about everything in my FMP, from how good I thought my research went, to how I managed my time throughout the project.

Proposal 3 my aims for the project  Skills audit – talk about my strengths and weaknesses going into this project.  Mood board – add colour schemes, patterns, and existing products similar to mine then analyse it. Talk about similarities, differences and what I will do to incorporate a certain item.  Key influences – add at least three different people or products that have influenced my project. How have they? Why?  Add any extras that could be useful. Mind maps of ideas, more mood boards, etc.  Proposal – Give a brief explanation of my project concept as well as how my skills that I’ve learnt on previous projects help. Also talk about how my project will be reviewed and the audience my trailer will appeal to. 2 Research  Start by analysing existing products that are similar to mine – if it’s a film, pick a scene and analyse areas such as the mise-en-scene or location. If it’s a still poster, analyse use of colour or fonts.  Secondary audience research – For existing products, find out what the audience thought. For example, look at the reviews for a film that was researched in existing products.  Primary audience research – create a questionnaire or interview people as to what they think of existing products and what they think of my idea.  3 Research  Finish Primary audience research if I haven’t already  Subject research – get some background information on the subject and note down any additional comments they have made during audience research.  Practical Research – experiment with styles similar to mine. For example, try a different type of stop motion.  Finish bibliography of everything you’ve researched 4 Pre-production & Planning  Start with a reflection of what I’m doing, why, and for whom.  A lot of pre-production is shorter slides about a lot of things. For example, I will make lots of slides on areas such as risk assessments, budget, contingency planning, location and resources.  I will finish on a production schedule. This will follow the next four weeks and give me an idea on how much time I should be spending in one area. 5 Production  Week one will all be spent in front of a PC. I will create the characters and the different walking cycles that go with them. A lot of time will be spent on this as there will be a lot of different movements
  • 4. Proposal 4 6 Production  Week two of production will be finishing up the movements of the characters, then working on the backgrounds. For example, the trees and buildings. If this is done earlier in the week, then I will also be able to start creating my trailer. 7 Production  The third week of production will be split into two halves. The start will be finishing taking all the photos to complete my trailer, and the second will be dedicated to the editing of it. Putting all the photos together on Premier to create a moving image. Once the image is made, I will be able to make the score for the music. 8 Production  The last week of production will be dedicated to finishing up my trailer and completing side projects. Once the trailer is done, I will make the poster for the movie on Photoshop. If I have finished this and it looks good, I will make more products, such as an album. 9 Evaluation  The evaluation is about the strengths and weaknesses of different areas throughout my project, and what I could do next time to improve me. In this I will talk about different areas such as my time management, and technical qualities of my project, both the main and side projects.  I will finish off with peer feedback. This is where I will show people my finished product and ask them what they liked about it and what they disliked. From this I will make a summery and talk about if I agree or disagree with them, and then I know how to improve it if I complete a similar task in the future.
