Working in a team
We will discuss how each of our specific roles of the Department of Student Life worked to achieve and follow this mission statement and how we demonstrated this mission statement through our actions
Nicole
The purpose of the Peer Advisement Team (PAT) was to assess how Geneseo organizations are fulfilling their missions along with discussing any challenges they may be facing. Each intern was assigned a portion of student organizations to meet and discuss with. We independently emailed student organization leaders of our specific organizations, to set a time to meet. During these meetings to assess their progress, we asked them a series of questions to better understand their function and purpose, goals, and, ultimately, their biggest challenges. After meeting collectively as interns, we noticed that many clubs encountered similar issues and discussed which were most pertinent and pressing to address.

Student Organization Workshop
Many organizations discussed with us that they felt that the Student Organization workshop was too long and difficult to retain information from. Some information from the workshop seems more geared towards specific positions, such as event planning for the Programming Officer and the funding for the Treasurer. We believe that creating a Student Officer Organization Training with multiple workshops within it on different topics for various officers to attend would be beneficial. That way, one E-Board member does not have to block out 3 hours of their time and absorb all of the information. Instead, a full E-Board can gain new knowledge and tips from this workshop.
Through this set up, E-boards will better understand their resources and roles, as each E-board member would be advised to participate in some way. The better an e-board understands their respective positions the more likely they are to participate and the more smoothly the club will run. This will also help PR representatives and programming officers with information on publicizing events. Furthermore, a more organized e-board, and a smoother functioning organization will impact attendance and retention.
Officer Transition Program
Another common problem was that new officers felt unprepared for their new roles. This provided harmful to organizations because many had to start over with any progress that might previously has been made. To combat this issue we should require, or heavily advise, E-board members to create a codified officer transition program. This could happen through a mandated binder of materials that detail every position and its purpose. This could then be made available to new eboard members, who will have access to it throughout their time in a leadership position. This could also be done through a shared space, like Google Drive, that all E-board members have access to.
By having this required transition program in place this will allow new officers to understand the resources they have available. This could help with event planning, and therefore publicizing and advertising of the club and events. Having more widely known events could help bring in and retain members, as well.
Incentive Program
Again, one of the major issues clubs presented was having difficulties with e-board members being dedicated and committed to the club. As a consequence of this problem, it was difficult to ask for commitment from members when e-board members were not even showing dedication. Therefore, it might be beneficial for the Department of Student Life to require, or heavily advise, the inclusion of an incentive program in a club’s constitution. For example, if an e-board member showed up to every e-board meeting then at the end of the semester or year, they would be presented with a small token or gift--like a gift card.
It is important to not the use of an incentive program and not a punishment system. For example rewarding an e-board member for being proactive instead of punishing them for not.
This would effectively enhance e-board participation, be instrumental in the smoothing of officer transition from year to year and would help, through increased dedication of e-board in hopefully increasing dedication of members and retaining them.

Erica: What is CLIP?
CLIP is an acronym that stands for Campus Life Internship Project that was assigned by our supervisors
This project was joint-internship initiative that included not only the Department of Student Life interns, but also the Department of Career development Interns as well as the Office of Commencement Intern
Aim: to find out what concerns seniors have about their final year at Geneseo in regards to these different departments
In turn our job was to use the feedback we received from them to come up with a final recommendation that would resolve these concerns to suggest to the future Spring Interns to implement
Wilson: Getting Information: Surveys & Focus Groups
We began CLIP by thinking of ideas to most effectively improve the senior year experience. We created a survey to send out to the senior list and heard back from a good number of them. From there, we conducted 3 focus groups of about 5-10 seniors to hear about their experiences with different departments and services on campus and also asked for how it can be improved. We came up with conclusions based on what we heard from the focus groups. From these conclusions, we came with recommendations for next semester interns to possibly implement.
Brittani: Findings (Seniors would like to see more events centered around their class and their needs
Seniors value endorsements from students, as it provides them with an incentive to attend events
Seniors possess a lack of knowledge about all the services offered by the Department of Career Development
Seniors are concerned that information about commencement is not distributed until the spring)
Leila: Future Suggestion
recommendations: work closely with partner/office hours in the beginning of the week
don’t be afraid to reach out to other organizations and programs on campus
Wilson: reads mission statement
Erica: discusses main points we will be hitting
Some of the main topics we will be talking about in the next few slides are
How we spread awareness of what Positively Geneseo actually is
Whether that was through tabling events or through communicating with students through email or social media, any methods that we used to promote this idea and engage students further
Creating the Highlight Book
One of our responsibilities this semester was to create another Highlight Book, which is a booklet of individuals who were nominated for their positive impact on the Geneseo campus. This booklet included more information about the student, a quote from a question we asked them, as well as their photo.
Planning an event
We wanted to come up with some type of event that Positively Geneseo could plan and host, however there wasn’t a set structure given to us. In the beginning we brainstormed a bit, and came up with an idea that we will be talking about soon!
Erica: Programming
Tabling
explain each one
Planning Communication within Highlight Book
sending nomination forms (allowing students/faculty)
receiving nominations
sending question forms
receiving answers

Reception
purpose of reception
