3. LESSON OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, the student should be able to:
Explain concepts associated with ICT in education.
Explain multimedia.
List the advantages and disadvantages of using
multimedia in education.
5. ICTs have become one of the basic building blocks of modern
schools as they use a diverse set of ICT tools to communicate,
create, disseminate, store, and manage information. ICT
integration in education will develop effective learning
environment. It will act as a teacher and explain core content.
It will foster analytical thinking and network a learner with the
peers and experts while developing collaborative
atmosphere.
6. E-learning, web-based learning, computer-based training,
computer assisted learning, blended learning and online
learning are all ways through which ICT can be integrated in
education. Google classroom, zoom videoconferencing app,
Google meet, various learning management systems,
projectors, laptops, smartphones, interactive whiteboard,
hypermedia and the Internet are all tools and platforms that
facilitate the integration of ICT in education.
8. Multimedia is the combination of text, graphic, animation,
audio, and video in presenting and communicating
information. Multimedia can be linear or nonlinear. Linear
multimedia is a type of a multimedia that is designed to be
presented in a sequential manner. Non-linear is a type of
multimedia that is not presented in a sequential manner. It
allows interaction between the learner and the content.
10. It increases students’ interest and effectiveness in learning
using applications like computer assisted learning.
Multimedia applications in education engage students and
provide valuable learning opportunities.
It captures the attention of students in the learning process,
this helps to retain information for a longer time in memory.
It provides direct or firsthand experience to students.
It produces multiple ways of teaching and learning.
12. It makes students over dependent on the usage of
multimedia applications.
There is a huge cost involved in the set up and usage
of multimedia in education.
Lack of appropriate skills of both teachers and
students.
Resistance to change.
13. Lack of time required to plan, design, develop and
evaluate multimedia activities.
Non-acceptance of digital culture.
It is easier for students to lose focus or carried away if
not well monitored due to the excitement some
multimedia applications bring.
14. Try thy hands on
1. Define multimedia.
2. Clearly differentiate between linear and nonlinear
multimedia.
3. List four benefits of multimedia integration in education
4. List 3 devices and 2 platforms that help in
ICT/multimedia integration in education.
5. State three disadvantages of multimedia in education.
