Walt Disney had a vision of using animation and film to educate and inspire. He started the Disney Brothers' Cartoon Studio in 1928 and produced educational films during World War II for the military. Disney believed animation was an ideal medium for teaching and stimulating interest in important subjects. He opened Disneyland in 1955 featuring educational lands like Tomorrowland. 5. “The cartoon is a good medium to
stimulate interest. It is an ideal medium for
teaching and it has always been my hope
that we could do something that way. But it
would have to be of general interest, yet
helpful in teaching.
It should be used for opening people’s
minds and melting their needs. We have
recently explained mathematics in a film
and in that way excited public interest in
this very important subject. Donald in
Mathmagic Land stimulated interest in
mathematics and turned out very well.”
