2. Pop Genre
Some artists in the Pop Genre include: Bruno Mars,
Maroon 5, Rihanna, Pink and Justin Timberlake. All of
their music generally has strong rhythms that people can
dance to, catchy lyrics and choruses that people always
remember. They can be about many different things:
From love to death to relationships.
These artists have a wide range of fans because the
music they write about is relatable to young adults and
they can understand what they are singing about, and
they also attract teenagers because they are often quite
outgoing and good looking and their songs all have
catchy tunes which people love to sing and dance to.
The pop and rock genre have often been linked because
they both use strong melodies which stick into people’s
brains- a lot of rock bands also have popular music so it
falls under the same categories.
3. Rock Genre
Some artists in the rock genre include: Linkin
Park, Guns’ N’ Roses, Lady Antebellum and Queen.
Rock fans are usually in their older teens (Around
about 17) and then can stretch up to mid adult life. A
lot of the older fans will be more into the classic rock
bands. Their songs are often very expressive of
deep and powerful emotions and have catchy lyrics.
Rock and pop have often been linked because the
rock genre is also popular and they both contain
strong beats and rhythms (as said in the slide
before)
4. Choosing A Genre
Pop
Popular music can vary widely and usually has a wide range of people involved that can sing about
different things and look different, whilst still being popular. Songs can vary greatly: some can be
about deep passion and heart break, whilst others are about enjoying life and just being free
whilst you can. Popular music came about in America and the UK about the 1930’s.
5. Electronica
Electronica music has been known for its eccentric characters, such as Daft Punk. It’s music is catchy
and is often used in places such as dance clubs because of the many different rhythms and
patterns in the music. Electronica music uses technology (Such as computers and electronic
keyboards) to create musical sounds which come together to form songs.

6. Country
Country music has always been very popular because it so strongly resembles the southern states of
America and it has always been appealing because of the cow-boy twang that people sing with.
Country music has some massive stars to its name, such as Billy Ray Cyrus and Dolly Parton.

7. Blues
Blues music came about near to 1912 and the songs were very often written to explain stories and
pass messages from one person to the other. This type of music was used for slaves to
communicate their feelings and to give each other hope. And confidence to keep going. Their
songs spoke of sad times, but also of times when they would overcome their trials and pains.

8. Latin
Latin music contains strong rhythms and are very danceable, often being linked to dances such as
salsa and tango. They contain hard beats and very often contain languages other than English-
predominantly Spanish. The performers are often also Spanish.
Choosing A Genre
9. My Choice
I have decided to create a Pop music magazine.
Firstly because it is my favourite genre of music, and
I know a wide range of artists that belong to the
genre so I will know how the artists will look on my
cover. I also decided to use this genre as I have the
most access to the audiences/fans of the genre and
so I will be able to gain more information on what
they like than any other genre that I could do. It will
be the best genre for me to write articles on and I will
know the sort of thing that people will like to learn
about the artists for the magazine articles.
