  1. 1. Inspire, Reward, Perform The Massive Motivation Manifesto Why the rules of motivation are changing.
  2. 2. Time to step it up
  3. 3. Let’s not kid ourselves. Deep down, we all know what massive motivation looks like in the workplace. It’s when your customers are happy and become your biggest advocates. It’s when your people are on fire - individuals performing to their best and working in unity in their team and with other teams across the business. It’s when sales teams are making those extra calls and visits to smash their targets, operational teams have an unswerving attention to quality and service and the whole company is alive with ideas, energy and positive attitude. It’s a game-changing commitment which creates momentum to succeed. It’s when work is enjoyable. > > > > >
  4. 4. Starting Here The rules have changed. People have changed. So the way that we motivate them has to change too. People want more choice. They want to be treated as individuals. Their expectations are higher and old- school motivation techniques are falling short. Massive Motivation is our manifesto for change, and a way to help you get back to higher-performing teams. It’s time to re-motivate motivation itself. So why doesn't it happen?
  5. 5. Mind the gapNearly every business faces a motivation gap. The 2016 Edenred Barometer found that around a third of employees are unhappy at work. What’s more over the past ten years, our other studies have found motivation levels in the UK have remained static. Organisations without massive motivation are missing out on four powerful drivers of success.
  6. 6. Dedication It’s simple: motivated people do more and get more things done. There’s a drive to do great work and a pride in helping the business succeed. Your people are committed because they find their work rewarding and they know it makes a difference. Inspiration Massive Motivation isn’t just about individuals doing great things on their own. It’s about people working brilliantly together. They may be working for you but in their minds they’re working for each other. It’s teamwork on a different level – with exceptional results. the ones who defeat everyday problems and go the extra mile ,,,,
  7. 7. Perspiration Big ideas Doing a great job every day isn’t easy – there’s always something which can get in the way. Motivated people don’t see things that way. They’re the ones who defeat everyday problems and go the extra mile. That’s because it matters to them as much as it matters to the business. Motivation drives empowerment and empowerment gives people the opportunity to think how they can work smarter. And it’s this kind of environment which generates the game-changing ideas which keep your business ahead of the competition. It’s a place where people speak up and they know they will be heard.
  8. 8. No more tell and yell The rise of generation 'meh' Great expectations The old methods don’t work any more. There’s a new breed of worker with fresh set of expectations from their workplace. Today’s workforce is more diverse than ever. And for the first time, four generations are working side-by-side. It’s a place where the challenge isn’t just managing millennials, it’s the fact that they are now managing baby-boomers and Gen Xers. Each of these generations has different experience and career expectations. Fail to understand the different motivations of these groups and all you’ll be left with is a new generation of workers who are indifferent to you as an employer. The age when ‘tell and yell’ leadership was enough to get people working hard is long gone. Research shows that people want managers who help them feel like they belong in their team and who empower them to do the best job. It’s relationships, not targets that matter when it comes to motivating people.
  9. 9. Recognition matters The hyperconnected employee Our workplaces increasingly rely on collaboration in teams which are geographically dispersed. Some meet rarely, some never at all. Employees consistently tell researchers that the single most important motivator isn’t money, safety or pressure that drives people at work: it’s the “power of small wins”. This sense of working towards a common goal and being recognised by their leaders and peers for their contribution is at the heart of massive motivation. We all know it’s good to talk – and you can’t motivate if you won’t communicate. So we need fast, simple, frequent communications. We need to keep everyone involved with what we are trying to do. Employees need to connect with customers, with each other, with the employer brand. And in our hyperconnected world, where our employees can’t live without their mobile, yet leave their desk phone ringing, we have to find new ways to communicate; we need schemes that not only fit in with but also exploit the devices, platforms and technologies that employees prefer to use. Communication is often the difference between a good motivation programme and a great one. We need to keep everyone involved with what we are trying to do ,,,,
  10. 10. There aren't enough great people With one in four jobs in the UK going unfilled, according to the UK Commission for Skills and Employment, employers who want to thrive have to be at the top of their game when it comes to attracting and retaining their people. Motivated employees make a difference because they are more committed and therefore more likely to stay with an organisation – they also help attract the employees you need for the future. Whichever way you look at it, the message is clear – if you want to build an organisation, motivation is what will help you stand out.
  11. 11. Carrot Go beyond the Inspire Reward Perform
  12. 12. Go for it... How to make Massive Motivation happen Getting Massive Motivation in your organisation just needs hard work and a clear plan in three areas.
  13. 13. Inspire Setting and hitting targets is critical to every business. The thing is that while targets might motivate you, you can’t assume they mean the same to your people. To build massive motivation you need to go beyond talking about targets, but inspire with a vision, a journey, a plan and the prize for getting there. You need inspirational leadership and a consistent, motivating management approach that is focused on building a culture and environment for success. Massive motivation comes when you inspire your people to compete, achieve and succeed. You are transparent about what you want to achieve and there’s a trust that you are all in it together. This means being clear about the things your people need to do in order to hit your targets. It also means going out of your way to show you’re on their side and explain how you’ll support your people. Massive Motivation requires leaders and managers with the right skills, passion and beliefs. inspire with a vision, a journey, a plan and the prize for getting there ,, ,,
  14. 14. Reward Massive Motivation is something which only grows if you nurture it. You have to spot the times when people work hard to achieve your goals, show recognition for a job well done and give timely praise. The best managers and leaders do this instinctively; they know how to do this and encourage individuals to praise each other too. But you can’t assume the rest – and that’s the majority of managers – will get it right. To build Massive Motivation you need to build a culture of recognition, a combination of top-down and peer-to-peer recognition, an environment where effort, hard work and success is celebrated openly. You need a plan and framework for the way you’ll recognise great performance. This is how you build an environment of transparency, trust and fairness which encourages your people to perform. It lays out your expectations around the behaviour that matters. Reward is the pivotal link between inspiration and great performance. Get it right, and you will build a powerful movement of positive and successful behavior and attitude. Getting it right means delivering reward and recognition that is timely, personalised, appreciated and communicated in a sincere and motivating way. Build a culture of recognition where effort, hard work and success is celebrated openly ,, ,,
  15. 15. Perform Recruit the right people, train and develop them, and provide them with the right tools and processes to operate. Add in inspiration and reward and you have a powerful plan for high performance and success. The ultimate driver for Massive Motivation is better business performance. That also means measuring what is working – and what isn’t. This isn’t just about progress against targets or simply asking whether people feel motivated. You need to find out whether your people and their managers are behaving differently: do people understand what they need to do to help the business succeed? Are teams working effectively – and if so why? What are your managers doing to help? And are they being recognised for their hard work? And, are your customers experiencing and noticing the difference? And your shareholders and wider stakeholders too! Massive Motivation only stays alive when you listen and learn from your people, making the changes which can help them work more effectively. Massive Motivation is creating a momentum and movement for success. Massive Motivation is differentiating the high performing individuals, teams and organisations from the average. Massive Motivation is what you need. It’s not just about feeling motivated – it’s about performing differently ,, ,,

  17. 17. Choices, choicesThere’s no such thing as a typical employee, customer or channel partner. Individuals have more power than ever, and demand more choice, whether in their personal life or their relationship with work. To truly motivate, you need to not only recognise them for who they are, but reward them appropriately. Choose the reward schemes that work for them, and they’ll work better for you.
