How did he discover it?
Fleming was cultivating some
bacteria in the laboratory to
study them when they were
accidentally contaminated by a
fungus. Then he watched this
fungus called Penicillium
notatum, and joining it to
bacteria, it killed them and
stopped their reproduction.
What is it?
Penicillin is an antibiotic which
can cure different diseases. It
was discovered in 1928
Its International Impact:
Penicillin was the first antibiotic
in history and its discovery
revolutionized medicine. Many
diseases caused by bacteria and
that until then were incurable
and fatal , could be cured , such
as scarlet fever , syphilis or
septicemia.
