Personal Statement
“I think the thing to do is to enjoy the ride while you're on it.” This is one of my favourite quotes from
one of my favourite actors, Johnny Depp. Since the time I have been crawling on my own two hands, I
have always enjoyed watching films hoping that one day I can be just like my heroes. Kids my age
would be watching cartoons and wanting to be superman or other cartoon characters but I wanted to
be like the actors I watched at home on my television. The reason this quote inspires me is because
life can be tough throwing many obstacles and opportunities at you testing your patience and
responsibilities. Patience for myself is key no matter what; I do not give up so easily for example, I
remembered being out one time in search for tea bags for my family out in Cannes, France. I took a
bicycle looking over and over again as shops were closed down. I have been cycling for about a mile
and a half now until I reached a closing cafe. I had now completed my mission finally at ease and
peace as I happily returned home. Acting is the same, people have to look for work and even if they
do are later turned down. Just like my other hero Bradley Cooper who had been struggling for 3 years
and being turned down from auditions until he worked harder and did not give up making him an
Oscar award winning actor today.
As far as I can remember, acting has been a passion of mine whether it be impersonating others at
home or taking part in every school play possible or even making others entertained by becoming a
completely different person. It is not just a dream but a reality for myself to become an actor and walk
down the red carpets in Hollywood all suited and booted. I am very committed to my work and
enthusiastic when it comes to performing. This is as I believe in perfection no matter what. I would
always perform as if it is my last performance and I would rehearse all day no matter how long until I
knew it was perfect. One great characteristic I have within me is my memory as I am able to
remember and memorise everything whether it be phone numbers, dialogues from films or even old
memories.
My hobbies and interests are acting and even making short clips on my phone. I enjoy entertaining
people and so decided to do it for a living. This is why I decided to become an actor as entertainment
for me is everything. I enjoy socialising a lot to and working well with others as well as learning more
from people I meet. I found socialising useful as you get to meet amazing new people who share with
me their lifetime experiences. I found this is important as an actor as I can work well with others and
become a better me when learning from their experiences and outcomes. As a young actor I have
studied other great actors and legends such as Al Pacino and Leonardo DiCaprio. I have also been
studying other great skills of acting such as Brecht, Stanislavsky and Bertolt and have also performed
in such roles. I now understand different skills and knowledge of becoming a great actor.
2. Career and Objectives
I am looking to go into the media sector especially the film industry. I don’t just want to become an
actor but also a film director. I know I am confident with these two roles as I have gained a lot of basic
knowledge on how to perform and perfect these important roles within the industry. In addition I am
also deciding to further my career in the music industry. I believe I have the skills of directing many
music videos as I am very creative and enjoy to work in various roles within the industry and gain new
skills and experiences. I have worked in music videos before and am in process of working with a
professional production as well to create a music video of a new artist that I know well personally. My
objective is to become successful within the industry and make dreams into reality, done passionately
and with dedication. For these many reasons I chose acting as a profession for the rest of my life after
university. I have many experiences as I have done such work and job roles while at 6th form as I am
achieving my Diploma doing BTEC: Creative Media Productions and Performing Arts. I keep a blog
with all my work such as my music video production, short film trailer and scripts which you can view
on ‘Edgemediaweb.wordpress.com’.
Personal Interests and Outdoor Activities
My personal interests include a wide variety of focuses, as I am an adaptable individual. My personal
interest is socialising with others and going out with my friends for outdoor activities. My outdoor
activities are going out to the cinema to watch the latest films with friends or family. I enjoy discussing
and sharing my views and opinions about the films. Apart from this I like to do other things such as
going to international festivals and concerts as I get to experience different people’s cultures, religion
and traditions. I thoroughly enjoy learning from others and love listening to different genres and
languages of music such as French, Spanish, Iranian, Urdu, English and Arabic. What I enjoy most
about them is the dialect and accents as I try to sing along with them. I do this as I get to learn how to
put on different accents as actors do in films. I can do a great Indian, Arabic, Spanish and French
accent. Fitness is one of my other outdoor activities as I enjoy weight training and cardio exercises.
This is because I am also interested in working in action films and so I want to have a body suitable
for the role as I train hard.
Summary of Skills
I have many skills when it comes to computers as well. During my education I was able to learn how a
computer works and how to use many different software’s such as Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut
Pro X. These two software’s I believe are important as the industry that I want to get into which is the
media industry evolves around these software’s whether it be digital media like printing and editing
films and music videos. I believe I am on an intermediate level as I have handled theses software’s
before to create a professional production. I am advanced in all Microsoft software’s such as Word,
Publisher and Excel.
I tend to speak many different languages as I find it useful for when travelling and believe it is a good
skill to have in general. I speak, read and write Urdu fluently as well as speaking Punjabi as it is my
mother tongue. I also speak a little Arabic as I am half Lebanese yet read and write it fluently. Spanish
is a language I have tried to learn myself. I cannot speak it fluently but understand it and can speak
the basic phrases. English I would say is one of my strongest language as I can speak and write the
language fluently
I acquire many great office skills such as working well with others, great telephone manner, I type fast,
and most importantly communication skills. I enjoy working with others especially as part of a team. I
can confidently say I am an excellent team Leader as I know how to lead others through effective
dictation and delegation. I can be strict at times if I need to but am work friendly and flexible. Problem
3. solving is what I do best especially helping others with their problems whether it be personal issues or
problems with work. I am able to organize and also plan and schedule things in advance as I am
punctual as well and like to meet my deadlines.

I have had work experience done for a whole summer. The reason I had left was due to the time and
effort I was putting into my 6th form studies which had me achieving my results. I was working a
technical shop called Hoffman’s in South Woodford, Essex. My job was to greet customers and help
them out with any difficulties they had with their electrical devices such as mobiles, laptops and
headphones. I would change and repair mobile screens and this gave me knowledge on how cameras
worked inside as well as outside the device. That job also helped me improve my social skills as I got
to work well with others and also shows I can work well under pressure as well as solving problems. I
have also had work experience in a professional television drama in Pakistan called ‘Aag’ meaning
fire in Urdu. I was an extra at a birthday party scene and was very happy and overwhelmed to be a
part of it. This helped me understand how the cast and crew work on set of any production as I had a
chance to experience a life of an actor.
