1. The Body And The
Blood
A journey beyond the empty tomb
2. Exodus 12:21–28
21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel
and said to them, “Go and take for yourselves
lambs according to your families, and slay the
Passover lamb. 22 “You shall take a bunch of
hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the
basin, and apply some of the blood that is in
the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts;
and none of you shall go outside the door of
his house until morning. 23 “For the LORD will
pass through to smite the Egyptians;
3. and when He sees the blood on the lintel and
on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over
the door and will not allow the destroyer to
come in to your houses to smite you. 24 “And
you shall observe this event as an ordinance
for you and your children forever. 25 “When
you enter the land which the LORD will give
you, as He has promised, you shall observe
this rite. 26 “And when your children say to
you, ‘What does this rite mean to you?’ 27 you
shall say, ‘It is a Passover sacrifice to the LORD
who passed over the houses of the sons of
Israel in Egypt
4. when He smote the Egyptians, but spared our
homes.’ ” And the people bowed low and
worshiped. 28 Then the sons of Israel went and
did so; just as the LORD had commanded
Moses and Aaron, so they did.

6. Passover Plan
Passionate plea didn’t
work
Signs and wonders to

Death worked a release

The sacrifice of a lamb
Blood on the posts
This is the model for ages
to come
7. The Body
You shall also offer
one male goat for a
sin offering …
Leviticus 23:19a
8. Endless Ritual
Every priest stands daily ministering and
offering time after time the same sacrifices,
which can never take away sins;
Hebrews 10:11
1. Reminder of sin
2. Atonement
3. Continued sin
9. The Blood
Then the priest is to take some of the blood of
the sin offering with his finger and put it on
the horns of the altar of burnt offering; and
the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the
base of the altar of burnt offering.
Leviticus 4:25
1. Life
2. Payment
10. The Purpose
And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are
cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is
no forgiveness.
Hebrews 9:22
11. Forward to Jesus
“I am the living bread that came down out of
heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will
live forever; and the bread also which I will
give for the life of the world is My flesh.”
John 6:51
1. Places himself in time
2. Paves the way His substitutionary role
12. A Hard Saying
53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to
you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of
Man and drink His blood, you have no life in
yourselves. 54 “He who eats My flesh and
drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will
raise him up on the last day. 55 “For My flesh is
true food, and My blood is true drink. 56 “He
who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides
in Me, and I in him.
13. 57 “As the living Father sent Me, and I live
because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he
also will live because of Me. 58 “This is the
bread which came down out of heaven; not as
the fathers ate and died; he who eats this
bread will live forever.”
John 6:53–58
14. Not the Eucharist
Eat the flesh-Appropriate the life
Drink His blood-Appropriate the saving merit of
His death
The act of communion does not impart grace
16. Explanation in advance
While they were eating, Jesus took some
bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and
gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat;
this is My body.” And when He had taken a
cup and given thanks, He gave it to them,
saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My
blood of the covenant, which is poured out for
many for forgiveness of sins.
Matthew 26:26–28

18. What happened on the cross
Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our
sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed
Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But
He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening
for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His
scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have
gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own
way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
Isaiah 53:4–6
19. Matthew 12:39–40 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and
adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given
to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; 40 for just as JONAH WAS THREE
DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son
of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Luke 23:42- Paradise
Ephesians 4:8–10 Therefore it says, “WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED
CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN.” 9 (Now this
expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also
had descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who
descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the
heavens, so that He might fill all things.)
What happened in the grave?
20. A busy three days
1 Peter 3:18–19 (NASB95)
18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God,
having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which also He went and
made proclamation to the spirits now in prison,
Hebrews 9:11–14 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered
through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this
creation; 12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered
the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and
bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of
the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself
without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Hebrews 9:23 Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed
with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
22. Why the resurrection?
But when this perishable will have put on the
imperishable, and this mortal will have put on
immortality, then will come about the saying
that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in
victory. “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O
DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?” The sting of death
is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but
thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:54–57
23. A proclamation and remembrance
For I received from the Lord that which I also
delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night
in which He was betrayed took bread; and when
He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is
My body, which is for you; do this in
remembrance of Me.” In the same way He took
the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the
new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as
you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often
as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you
proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
1 Corinthians 11:23–26
