In 2010 reed de Belg gemiddeld 7 616 km als autobestuurder, dat is 15% meer dan de gemiddelde Europeaan, 20% meer dan de Fransen en 24% meer dan de Nederlanders.
Het wagenbezit is met 487 wagens per 1000 inwoners vergelijkbaar met de buurlanden, maar de jaarlijks afgelegde afstand per personenwagen ligt met 15 649 km een stuk hoger.

Is de auto ons laatste speelgoedje/onze laatste droom? Net zoals we ons het liefst verplaatsen met een mountainbike.
Tussen 2008 en 2030 stijgt het totaal aantal reizigerskm met 20% en het totaal aantal tonkm met 68%.
In 2030 blijft het wegvervoer dominant: 86% van de reizigerskm, waarvan 80% met de auto, en 71% van de tonkm, waarvan 67% met de vrachtwagen, worden afgelegd over de weg.
De verkeerssituatie op de weg blijft achteruitgaan: tussen 2008 en 2030 daalt de gemiddelde snelheid met 29% tijdens de spits en met 16% tijdens het dal.
